Record Warmth...A Travel V-Log...No I Do

BILL BLOG

Friday February 24, 2023

Friday morning and we’re headed for the last weekend of February already.

YESTERDAY

My songwriting appointment cancelled yesterday after my co-writer called and let me know he wasn’t feeling 100% so that gave me the day open and I got out just a bit to enjoy the warm weather. It hit 80 degrees yesterday and that broke a 127-year-old record. The highest temperature on February 23 before yesterday was 74 and that was way back in 1897.   Folks had their AC on here in Music City yesterday. Amazing. It’s starting to feel like baseball weather around here.

Little cooler today with a high on tap of just 51.

And it’s not that long until we do spring forward in time. That’s coming up on March 12…just a couple of weeks away.

MARCH SHOWS

With February coming to an end, here’s a look at a couple of shows I have on the books in March.

March 10 and 11 at Dollywood for a festival to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Dolly’s mega-hit “I Will Always Love You”. Over a 5- or 6-week period there will be songwriter shows inside the park at the Showstreet Palace Theater. I’ll be there with “Hits & Grins” alongside Steve Dean & Victoria Venier. We will do three forty-minute shows each of those two days at 10-2 and 4. Admission to the songwriter shows is free with your park admission. Our is the opening weekend for this great festival and we’re all honored to be part of this.

Then on Saturday March 18 Steve Dean and myself will play the songwriter series at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum here in Nashville. Showtime is noon. We each perform three songs and there’s a Q&A session with those in the audience. Very fun shows inside the beautiful Ford Theater in the Hall of Fame. And this one too is free with your admission ticket to the Hall of Fame. So you can tour our wonderful museum and catch a show for free all in one day.

 DAUGHTER'S YOU TUBE CHANNEL

So my daughter Heather and her Army husband Casey now live in Germany. My daughter has a You Tube Channel "Sassy Cinderella" and she and her husband have been posting some amazing videos on her channel. Here's one she posted today as the two of them toured the town of Bacharach together. If you want to check out Germany and their adventures, subscribe to her "Sassy Cinderella" channel. Pretty cool stuff...said her Dad.

HEALTH NOTES

A couple of studies now suggest that sleeping pills and frequent use of laxatives may increase the risk of dementia.

Yet another study shows that pancreatic cancer is rising faster for women than men.

AND…one more study suggesting insomnia may be linked to higher risk of heart attack.

THEY AIN’T GETTING MARRIED

A study reveals that 60% of men and 34% of women under 30 are single. Wow. Seems like everyone got married in their late teens and early 20’s when I was growing up. My parents were married when they were like 18 and 19…and I came along when they were maybe 20 or 21 or 22. I’m guessing early 20-year old’s now must be swapping kids for pets.

ODD AMERICANS WE ARE

A bunch of non-Americans were asked what they thought was weird about our country. Here’s 3 that made me nod my head in agreement.

Why aren’t the taxes on the price tag?

Why do we SUPER-size so many items?

And why do we valet park when we can easily park our own vehicle?

GOOD CLUCKIN’ NEWS

Word is that egg prices will drop by 30% this year. It would be nice to not have to float a lone to buy a dozen Grade A’s.

BOOK JOKE

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, “Where’s the self-help section?” She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

TODAY

I’m off today AND have nothing on my calendar all weekend either. Not sure what I’m going to do with myself. But next week is crazy busy with writing appointments so maybe I’ll put my feet up and get ready for that.

Have a great weekend!

Dollywood Shows...A Rocket Gone...In-A-Gadda

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 25, 2023   Another Hump Day to get over. 52 with light rain in Music City today. Rain fits the melancholy I feel as I got word that my daughter and son in law touched down in Germany where they will be stationed with the Army for the next three years. The positive news is that my wife and I will be making trips to Europe to seem them and the beautiful scenery that now surrounds them. I’m going to Google and see if Tom Bodet has a light on for us there.   YESTERDAY I wrote with David Morris at a recording studio my publishing company owns. David signed a deal several months ago with my publishing company as well so we’re sort in the same family. David lives out east but comes to town regularly and stays a week or so to co-write with other folks as he did with me yesterday. He brought with him a true story of a friend who passed away recently and said something that made quite the impact with David. It’s all about not fooling yourself

Blackouts...Christmas...Looking For Audrey

BILL BLOG Monday December 26, 2022 Monday morning and I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! They’re actually calling for a little light snow in Nashville this morning with a high above freezing. Almost 40 degrees for a high today and back up close to 70 by the weekend.   CHRISTMAS WEEKEND Well, we went through the really cold weather too. Down near zero part of the weekend, and e we had a little snow mixed with power outages, cars off the roads   and rolling blackouts… a first in the history of Tennessee. We did not get a notice from our electric company so it was a surprise when the power went out in 15-minute increments four different times early Friday morning. About the time I’d find the flashlight and light a candle or two the power would pop back on and I’d walk around resetting every clock we have. Nashville is not prepared for sub-zero and the power grid here was not capable of the high demand from folks who were cranking up their heaters. I’m not political but,
