California Bound

BILL BLOG

Thursday January 12, 2023

Thursday morning in Nashville. Early flight on the way.

YESTERDAY

It was all about packing and having my ducks in a row for this California trip this morning with my “Hits & Grins” trio with Steve Dean and Victoria Venier. So a very short blog this morning as I’m catching an Uber (for the first time) to the airport to jump on board that will land in Las Vegas, and then the three of us will jump on one more Southwest bird to get us to Sacramento and a rental car that will get us to Lodi in time for a show tonight.

California, and especially in the Sacramento region has been flooded so I’ve packed a guitar and galoshes for this trip and now we’re praying we have no flight problems and will get there on time. Going to be some kind of a day.

We play tonight, have a night off and then Saturday evening we’ll have one more show in Redondo Beach before flying home Sunday from LA.

A regular “blog” will return here tomorrow morning from Sacramento.

Have a great Thursday!

Dollywood Shows...A Rocket Gone...In-A-Gadda

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 25, 2023   Another Hump Day to get over. 52 with light rain in Music City today. Rain fits the melancholy I feel as I got word that my daughter and son in law touched down in Germany where they will be stationed with the Army for the next three years. The positive news is that my wife and I will be making trips to Europe to seem them and the beautiful scenery that now surrounds them. I’m going to Google and see if Tom Bodet has a light on for us there.   YESTERDAY I wrote with David Morris at a recording studio my publishing company owns. David signed a deal several months ago with my publishing company as well so we’re sort in the same family. David lives out east but comes to town regularly and stays a week or so to co-write with other folks as he did with me yesterday. He brought with him a true story of a friend who passed away recently and said something that made quite the impact with David. It’s all about not fooling yourself

Blackouts...Christmas...Looking For Audrey

BILL BLOG Monday December 26, 2022 Monday morning and I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! They’re actually calling for a little light snow in Nashville this morning with a high above freezing. Almost 40 degrees for a high today and back up close to 70 by the weekend.   CHRISTMAS WEEKEND Well, we went through the really cold weather too. Down near zero part of the weekend, and e we had a little snow mixed with power outages, cars off the roads   and rolling blackouts… a first in the history of Tennessee. We did not get a notice from our electric company so it was a surprise when the power went out in 15-minute increments four different times early Friday morning. About the time I’d find the flashlight and light a candle or two the power would pop back on and I’d walk around resetting every clock we have. Nashville is not prepared for sub-zero and the power grid here was not capable of the high demand from folks who were cranking up their heaters. I’m not political but,

A Miners Song...Hall of Fame Show...Golden Guitar Awards

BILL BLOG Thursday January 19, 2023   Hello Thursday morning. How can it already be the 19 th of January? Getting ready for a “Hits & Grins” show in town tonight…more on that at the end of today’s Blog.  YESTERDAY I took a little trip out in the country to see and write with Thomm Jutz. First time we’ve written at his place that has a great home studio built into it and that’s where we wrote. I brought an idea with me, but when I was unpacking my guitar and computer setting up to rhyme something, Thomm was playing a really cool thing on his Martin guitar. I asked if he was working on an idea with that melody and he said he was not. I said, “well we should” and dropped my idea like big rock because that melody was so cool. The melody was a little “dark” in nature and when he asked what kind of song I thought would work for it, I suggested a song about the miners who have such a hard life. Thomm loves history and knew a lot about that lifestyle so we just wrote the heck out of
