Out of the Woods...No Ocean In Missouri...Show This Week

Monday November 21, 2022

Monday morning, and it’s officially Thanksgiving week…already. And I’m happy to be out of the woods with COVID. Something to be truly “thankful” for this week.

It was a pretty lazy weekend laying around and getting better and even back out into the world for a bit on Saturday. That felt good. The weather has been really nice here, cool, but sunny. But on Thanksgiving day in Nashville the high is going to be 63. This is not Buffalo…thank goodness. I don’t think they make snowblowers big enough for 80 inches of snow do they?

I saw that the song I wrote with fellow Missourian Becky Denton got the most airplay for a week this past October on Palm Tree Radio, which is a Trop Rock radio station in the UK that’s on the internet. Who knew they love Trop Rock music in Europe too?

I’ve loved this song since we wrote it, and I’m glad to see it’s getting some attention. Perfect timing as it’s getting cold in the Show Me State while it’s warm on the beaches. Thank you Becky and Palm Tree Radio.  If you’ve not heard this fun beach song, check it out HERE

This was an eye-popping headline in the NY Times on Friday. “Will COVID boosters prevent another wave? Scientists Aren’t So Sure”.

In Canada, the B.C. Center for Disease Control says self-isolation for those with COVID is no longer required, but that one should stay in as much as possible.

Encouraging. A leading Doctor says hospitalizations for COVID are nowhere near as deadly as 2021. He also mentioned symptoms have changed a bit. Headaches, runny nose, persistent coughing, sore throat, and fever are all indicators now.

Someone suggested that if you replace your morning coffee with green tea (health nuts) you can lose what little joy you still have left in this life. I’m on my second cup of pleasure right now.

That time of year. Some folks really don’t think it through and give really bad gifts. Here’s three that were mentioned in an article.

A Dad unwrapped a nose trimmer.

A man gave his wife a trash can for Christmas.

And a family friend gave some folks a drum set for their kids.

Those were not at the top of anyone’s Christmas lists I’m sure.

Not the best time apparently as home sales are at the lowest levels now in 10 years. This on the heels of a buying frenzy where prices went through the roof. However, the asking prices remain high. They’re just not selling like they were. And the mortgage rates are high too.  Something has surely got to give right?

MOVIEWEB just listed the top 7 Looney Tune characters. In reverse order those would be, Wile E Coyote, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, The Tasmanian Devil, Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the most popular Looney Tune is Bugs Bunny.

I’ll take Bugs, and Daffy in my top 3, but I’d add one they left out, Foghorn Leghorn. “I say boy”. Love that chicken.

In case you missed the AMA Awards last night (yea, me too) I did read about Carrie Underwood flying into her performance during the show. I’m trying to decide if I should start practicing the same exact entrance at my next show while singing “I’m Going Ugly Early”. Cast your votes now.

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon asked his viewers to send in those reasons. Here’s one. A guy who worked at Panera Bread admitted to “putting bread bowls on his fist then boxing the other cashier”. Yep, in most cases, that will have you sitting in an exit meeting with an HR person.

“Why Pythons Aren’t Good Pets”. I can take a guess. Any pet that can swallow it’s owner is not a great pet.

I cancelled one more songwriting appointment this morning to give myself one more day of rest before really getting back out into the world. This Wednesday night, Thanksgiving Eve, I’ll be part of this fun songwriters show at the Listening Room in Nashville and I’m looking forward to that. Come see us if you’re in town.

Have a great Monday!

A Mo Mo Proclamation...A Pilot Gets His Wings...Happy 4th!

BILL BLOG July 4, 2022     Happy 4 th of July!   Let the fireworks begin. And in my neck of the woods, that means they’ll be firing them up for the next 10 days or more. It will be 95 here in Nashville today…very 4 th of “Julyish”.   THE MO MO WEEKEND I don’t know where to start about how great my show was in Louisiana, Missouri Friday night for the 50 th Anniversary celebration of “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster. The Elks Lodge where I played must have had well over 200 folks attending, and I think I knew at least 90% of the crowd filled with family members, friends, high school classmates from Elsberry, Missouri and even a couple of old members of my band when I was young who I did not recognize. It’s been that long. Tim Burke played drums in my band, and I had not seen him since then. He drove in from Nebraska to see the show. And Crystal Motley who sang in my young band also showed up, and I’d not seen her since those days and didn’t know her either. Geez. I need to go home

Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival...Hall of Famer...Two Shows Tonight

BILL BLOG Friday August 19, 2022   Friday morning in Gatlinburg getting ready for a songwriting session and a couple of shows tonight here at the Gatlinburg SongwritersFestival. 81 for the high today with some rain here today in the mountains.   YESTERDAY I picked up my “Hits & Grins” buddy Steve Dean and we hit I-40 East all the way to Gatlinburg. Rolled into town and stopped at the historic old Gatlinburg Inn and picked up our credentials, checked into our rooms a little further down the street and got set for the first activities.   First activities included a meet and greet followed by opening ceremonies underneath one of the ski lifts here. The put songwriter Kim Williams who wrote a TON of Garth Brooks hits into the Hall of Fame here. His wife accepted on his behalf as Kim passed away a few years ago.    I never wrote with Kim, but I’ve written with his talented daughter Amanda several times and I’ve had the pleasure of hearing all the Garth and Kim Williams storie

The Missouri Mo Mo Show

BILL BLOG Friday July 2, 2022 I'm on the road home to Nashville after one of the more incredible concert evenings I've ever had back home in Missouri for the 50th Anniversary Show for "Mo Mo" the Missouri Monster. The place was just packed with old friends, and co-workers, and musicians, family and friends.  Unfortunately I have no time to do a full "blog" this morning, but check back here Monday for the complete story on an evening I will not soon forget. Have a great Friday!
