More Key West Music...Parrothead Movie...Morning Comedy Cruise

Friday November 4, 2022

Friday morning, and here comes a weekend in Key West. 83 for the high in the southernmost part of the country today.

Another sunny day in the keys and it was hot under the sun but cooled in the evening. I introduced three different Trop Rock performers yesterday. One full band featuring the Landsharks who sing all the familiar beach tunes you know. The second was a trio called SMS that featured Scott Nickerson who started the entire Parrot Head-Trop Rock thing years ago when he was in Atlanta. He started the first official Parrot Head club, and it went “boom” with clubs everywhere now.

There’s a great documentary about the movement “The ParrotHeads Documentary” that Scott is in along with a lot of the Trop Rockers I’ve come to know over the past few years. It will give you a great look at what’s going on in this world of beaches and singers and the faithful Parrot Head fans. It’s a fun watch and I think you can find it on one your streaming platforms pretty easily.

And my day closed out introducing my hit songwriter buddy Aaron Scherz who’s had his songs recorded by Keith Urban, Reba, Maddie and Tay, Tracy Lawrence and on and on. He did a great acoustic solo set and that wrapped up my official responsibilities yesterday.

And here’s a great true story that happened yesterday that made me laugh. This guy is trying to get to his room by going backstage, but he was stopped because you have to have a pass of course to go backstage. He was using a cane to walk, holding his beer. As any good Parrot Head would. He apologized to me and security and said he was using a cane because he couldn’t walk with crutches and carry a beer at the same time. The security guy happened to be the organizer of this big affair, and he liked the guys story so much he let him go by. I’m still laughing.

My room faces the back of the stage with an ocean view. Tough huh?  So last night I grabbed an official sponsor of this event and sat on the balcony and listened to the rest of the evening’s entertainment that just rocked. I know…it’s a really tough life.

After my duties end in Key West this weekend, it’s the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival in Gulf Shores that officially started this week. A 2-week thing that’s been around for a very very long time that’s always so much fun to play. This year I have two shows with my “Hits & Grins” trio with Steve Dean and Victoria Venier and two other shows.  Here’s the schedule in case you’d like to come on down and join us.

5 pm-November 10 at Woodside Restaurant and Grill with Brent Burns.

10 pm-November 10 at the Florabama Main Listening Room with “Hits & Grins.”

7 pm-November 11 at Perdido Beach Resort with “Hits & Grins.”

6 pm-November 12 at Lulu’s with Brent Burns and Victoria Venier

An article I read this morning suggests that 10% of us may never test positive for COVID. Good genes, and some are asymptomatic to it, meaning they could be positive but just never know it.

Meanwhile, the flu season is rearing its ugly head along with COVID. Cases in South Carolina have quadrupled.

With that in mind Pfizer and BioNTech say they have started early studies trying to deliver a combo-vaccine that deals with both COVID and the flu at the same time. One shot.

Science and linguistics released a list of the most beautiful baby names. For boys it’s Matthew which means “gift of God.”. For girls it’s Sophia which stands for “wisdom.”  I could not help but notice that William was listed as the third most beautiful name for a boy. Just saying. Thanks Mom and Dad.

Neither Beavis nor Butthead made the top 100 on the list.

Yep, there are some bargains online for today. But this Black Friday might be more related to Twitter than to Christmas shopping as Elon Musk looks to be laying off half of the employees at the company he just bought. Merry Christmas.

There’s a movie coming out on the lives of George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Actress Jessica Chastain plays Tammy. Michael Shannon will play George. You’ll find it on Showtime. It doesn’t look half-bad. Here’s the TRAILER so you can sneak a peek.

Now some folks are taking advantage of scenic railway tracks by putting a vehicle that you can peddle down the railroad tracks while soaking up the scenery, and maybe losing a few pounds at the same time. Sort of a “Choo Choo” Peloton kind of thing I guess. I think I like being on the rails with an engineer myself, but it might be something fun to try.

“The More You Weigh; The Harder You Are To Kidnap. Stay Safe. Eat Cake.”  I don’t know if Betty Crocker wrote that or not, but it made me smile.

I’m on an early morning VIP Comedy cruise with Brent Burns for some VIP’s working the festival here that sails off the harbor at 9 AM and we return at noon. Stoney Gabel will also be joining us for this one.

Then this afternoon I’ll be back on stage introducing some more acts.

Have a great Friday! And a great weekend.

A Mo Mo Proclamation...A Pilot Gets His Wings...Happy 4th!

BILL BLOG July 4, 2022     Happy 4 th of July!   Let the fireworks begin. And in my neck of the woods, that means they’ll be firing them up for the next 10 days or more. It will be 95 here in Nashville today…very 4 th of “Julyish”.   THE MO MO WEEKEND I don’t know where to start about how great my show was in Louisiana, Missouri Friday night for the 50 th Anniversary celebration of “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster. The Elks Lodge where I played must have had well over 200 folks attending, and I think I knew at least 90% of the crowd filled with family members, friends, high school classmates from Elsberry, Missouri and even a couple of old members of my band when I was young who I did not recognize. It’s been that long. Tim Burke played drums in my band, and I had not seen him since then. He drove in from Nebraska to see the show. And Crystal Motley who sang in my young band also showed up, and I’d not seen her since those days and didn’t know her either. Geez. I need to go home

Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival...Hall of Famer...Two Shows Tonight

BILL BLOG Friday August 19, 2022   Friday morning in Gatlinburg getting ready for a songwriting session and a couple of shows tonight here at the Gatlinburg SongwritersFestival. 81 for the high today with some rain here today in the mountains.   YESTERDAY I picked up my “Hits & Grins” buddy Steve Dean and we hit I-40 East all the way to Gatlinburg. Rolled into town and stopped at the historic old Gatlinburg Inn and picked up our credentials, checked into our rooms a little further down the street and got set for the first activities.   First activities included a meet and greet followed by opening ceremonies underneath one of the ski lifts here. The put songwriter Kim Williams who wrote a TON of Garth Brooks hits into the Hall of Fame here. His wife accepted on his behalf as Kim passed away a few years ago.    I never wrote with Kim, but I’ve written with his talented daughter Amanda several times and I’ve had the pleasure of hearing all the Garth and Kim Williams storie

The Missouri Mo Mo Show

BILL BLOG Friday July 2, 2022 I'm on the road home to Nashville after one of the more incredible concert evenings I've ever had back home in Missouri for the 50th Anniversary Show for "Mo Mo" the Missouri Monster. The place was just packed with old friends, and co-workers, and musicians, family and friends.  Unfortunately I have no time to do a full "blog" this morning, but check back here Monday for the complete story on an evening I will not soon forget. Have a great Friday!
