New Co-Writer...Team Building...No Shirt Law

 BILL BLOG

Tuesday July 12, 2022

Tuesday morning in Nashville. A balmy 94 for a high today in Music City.

YESTERDAY

It was a busy Monday. Starting with a songwriting appointment with Wil Nance and Mitch Oglesby who I had not written with before. Good writer, meticulous, and the idea we are writing went through several melody changes before I had to leave, and Wil told me later that they changed the melody one last time. So I’ll hear that the next time the three of us get together to try and finish this idea. Could takes us two or three get togethers the way it’s feeling, but it’s worth taking our time on this one.

TEAM BUILDING

I went straight from Wil’s to the downtown Nashville Marriott to participate in a team building exercise with a digital content company that produces almost everything you see on a scoreboard at stadiums around the country…for every sport. Really interesting folks. Our job was to write a song with a group of them about their company and a particular sport. Mine was football. We got a great song, and I learned a lot about what they do. It was interesting to hear them talk about how their jobs changed during the outbreak of COVID in 2020 and how they had to generate “fake” crowd noise in the stadium for the games on TV, even though there were no fans in the stands because of COVID.

And while learned about what they do for a living, they learned about songwriting. Pretty sure they had a blast by the way they were laughing and singing as we all wrote the song together. My thanks to Jeff Jacobs for having me and thank you to my buddy Steve Dean for suggesting my name to him.

VIRUS NOTES

Lifehacker printed an article today listing “Covid Facts That Are No Longer True.”

Natural infection no longer gives complete protection. Mostly because of the new strain of COVID going round.

There’s nothing special about 6 feet of distance. If that’s true, wonder if stores will finally pick up those footprint signs on their floors?

And they say the protection we can expect from vaccines has now changed. Again, because the new variant seems to be able to break through everything. And the new COVID variant is indeed reinfecting the vaccinated.

MARRIAGE JOKE

A husband tells a friend, “I had a terrible fight with my wife last night, but she crawled to me on her kneed in the end.”

The friend says, “Wow, that’s really impressive!  What did she say?!

The husband replies, “Come out from under that sofa, you coward!”

PRIME DAY

It tis Amazon Prime Day. Bargains online they say. One of the biggest bargains is an Amazon Kindle book reader can be had with 50 percent off. Air Fryers, the best one available has a 40% off discount. I will say those Air Fryers are pretty danged cool. Our daughter and her husband gave us one for Christmas last year and even though I did not think I’d use it much; we use it ALL the time. Throw something frozen into it, no thawing required, and it comes out delicious every time. Still have not put a scoop of ice cream in it yet to see if I can get fried ice cream to come out of it.

PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON

In the town of Sorrento in Italy that’s on the beautiful Amalfi Coastline, the Mayor is fining anyone not wearing a shirt. Even if they’re in a swimsuit. He’s tired of all the bare-chested folks walking around in his town. Wow. I was thinking how much money the state of Tennessee would make if it fined anyone caught mowing their lawn without a shirt on. The state’s coffers would be overrunning with money.

DID YOU KNOW?

That it’s against the law to drive with a blindfold on in Alabama?

In Alaska it’s illegal to tie your dog to the roof of your car?

And here in Tennessee there’s a law that says that it’s illegal to shoot any game other than whales from a moving vehicle?  Gosh, and I could use the blubber.

DON’T WORRY…BE HAPPY

A recent survey says that 45% who filled it out claim they have not been happy for more than 2 years. Truly sad huh? One expert suggests that we should spend a few minutes each day on something that does make us happy. I’ve been blessed to find a job that I truly love and that would certainly help everyone. The old saying about finding a job you love means you never have to work a day in your life is dead on. Not everyone is so lucky…I know. But everyone has something in their life that makes them smile. Take time to go to those places as much as you can.

And with that, I’ll be starting a new TV show called “Dr. Bill”. You’re welcome.

DOCUMENTARY

I might have to watch the upcoming documentary about Tanya Tucker’s life, and her rebirth with the help of Brandi Carlisle. Tanya has had a very colorful life to say the least. Those make for good movies and documentaries like this one. I was doing a “live” broadcast once during CMA Fest from the stage of the Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville and Tanya was one of the guests that morning. When I introduced her, she walked out, wrapped her arms around my neck and planted a big lipstick kiss on my cheek. Didn’t know her at all. So yea, I think a documentary on her life could be VERY interesting.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

“Texas Woman Says Unborn Baby Should Count As A Passenger In The HOV Lane.”  And she probably thinks her little dog “Toto” should count too.

TODAY

I have songwriting appointment with the talented AndreaPearson today, our second time writing together. And we’ll spend a little time recording the first song we wrote together this morning that’s about a painter, just like Andrea is. That’s one of her passions other than music, singing writing and performing. Looking forward to it.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Mo Mo Proclamation...A Pilot Gets His Wings...Happy 4th!

BILL BLOG July 4, 2022     Happy 4 th of July!   Let the fireworks begin. And in my neck of the woods, that means they’ll be firing them up for the next 10 days or more. It will be 95 here in Nashville today…very 4 th of “Julyish”.   THE MO MO WEEKEND I don’t know where to start about how great my show was in Louisiana, Missouri Friday night for the 50 th Anniversary celebration of “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster. The Elks Lodge where I played must have had well over 200 folks attending, and I think I knew at least 90% of the crowd filled with family members, friends, high school classmates from Elsberry, Missouri and even a couple of old members of my band when I was young who I did not recognize. It’s been that long. Tim Burke played drums in my band, and I had not seen him since then. He drove in from Nebraska to see the show. And Crystal Motley who sang in my young band also showed up, and I’d not seen her since those days and didn’t know her either. Geez. I need to go home

Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival...Hall of Famer...Two Shows Tonight

BILL BLOG Friday August 19, 2022   Friday morning in Gatlinburg getting ready for a songwriting session and a couple of shows tonight here at the Gatlinburg SongwritersFestival. 81 for the high today with some rain here today in the mountains.   YESTERDAY I picked up my “Hits & Grins” buddy Steve Dean and we hit I-40 East all the way to Gatlinburg. Rolled into town and stopped at the historic old Gatlinburg Inn and picked up our credentials, checked into our rooms a little further down the street and got set for the first activities.   First activities included a meet and greet followed by opening ceremonies underneath one of the ski lifts here. The put songwriter Kim Williams who wrote a TON of Garth Brooks hits into the Hall of Fame here. His wife accepted on his behalf as Kim passed away a few years ago.    I never wrote with Kim, but I’ve written with his talented daughter Amanda several times and I’ve had the pleasure of hearing all the Garth and Kim Williams storie

The Missouri Mo Mo Show

BILL BLOG Friday July 2, 2022 I'm on the road home to Nashville after one of the more incredible concert evenings I've ever had back home in Missouri for the 50th Anniversary Show for "Mo Mo" the Missouri Monster. The place was just packed with old friends, and co-workers, and musicians, family and friends.  Unfortunately I have no time to do a full "blog" this morning, but check back here Monday for the complete story on an evening I will not soon forget. Have a great Friday!
