BILL BLOG
Tuesday March 18, 2025
Tuesday morning. Time to put the green beer away for another year. After being in the low 50’s yesterday we’ll have sunshine and the temperature will reach 75 degrees today in Nashville.
YESTERDAY
I spent part of St. Patrick’s Day writing with Thomm Jutz, who is preparing to play for 10 days in Ireland. Not that I’m jealous mind you! Caroline Owens who is a young talented bluegrass artist who records for Billy Blue Records also joined us in Thomm’s home studio and brought a great title that we turned into a new song.
Love the new song and it’s one that Caroline will put on her consideration pile as she’s stacking up songs for her new album out soon. I’m blessed to have one song on the project already and it wouldn’t hurt my feeling to have two!
I found out yesterday that one of Caroline’s hobbies other than singing, writing, playing, and fishing is making ink pens. She showed me and Thomm one she had made with a miniature hourglass at the top of the encased pen. It’s very cool. And she’s promised to make each of us one. We’re going to hold her to that.
Great day of writing.
SONG OF THE DAY
I’m choosing “More Country Than You” from my American Idol friend and co-write and “The Voice” star Emily Ann Roberts who recorded this very fun duet the three of us wrote. The song has had a lot of airplay and spins and a lot of nice things have been said about our little fun tune.
I also want to say congrats to Alex who just filmed a video for a NEW duet coming out soon with 90’s country hitmaker Tracy Byrd of “Watermelon Crawl” fame. Can’t wait for folks to see and hear this one…even though I didn’t help write this one. Good stuff for sure.

You can find more info on these shows and others under the TOUR section io my website.
A MOVIE SONG
My friend Shantell Ogden is filming her independent movie “Music City Mistletoe” right now in Nashville. Significant because I helped Shantell write the movie’s theme song by the same title with Victoria Venier from my “Hits & Grins” trio. Congrats to Shantell. The movie should be airing this Christmas season. I’ll post where you can watch it once I know.
Christmas came early this year.
HEALTH NOTES
The US measles outbreak is nearing 300 cases as doctors are warning of deadly, long-term risks for kids.
Doctors are concerned with tattoo artists who use anesthesia to put their customers out for painful tattoos.
A study suggests that strength training could help older adults overcome insomnia.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Missed it by THAT much!
MARCH MADNESS
The play-in games start today with 4 teams trying to stay in the “Dance” for college basketball. Of the 64 teams in the bracket, Sports Illustrated ranked the college mascots from worst to first. Their worst choice? The Clemson Tiger.
And the best mascot? That would be “The Blue Blob” from Xavier University in Cincinnati. How can you not love a Blob?
I wonder where Sports Illustrated would rank my college mascot from Central Missouri State University? The Mule.
SPEAKING OF COLLEGE
Families that make under $200,000 a year can now send their kids to Harvard…for free. If you make under $100,000 a year the kids will also get free meals, housing and health benefits. Tuition can run as high as $83,000 per year at Harvard. And statistics show that 86% of Americans make under $200,000 per year.
It costs a WHOLE lot less to become a Mule at the Central Missouri State. But then again, if you’re going to become a Jackass for the rest of your life it should be cheaper…right?
OPEN YOUR MOUTH
They arrested a woman in New York for pretending to be a Dentist successfully for 8 years or so operating out of her home. Yanking teeth, doing cleanings, etc. She’ll be checking cavities now in cell block 8.
FURRIES
That’s what they call public school kids these days that dress up as animals and then try to act like animals. Licking, having a litter box, barking, and meowing. True.
Makes me feel like painting water towers back in the day was pretty tame. The Governor of Texas just signed the “Furry Act” making it illegal to continue to try and be a skunk or an otter in school.
THEM AND US
The top 1% of Americans have enough money to buy 99% of all the homes in the US. Yeah, my mouth dropped open a bit after reading that stat.
LISTEN UP MOM
Country artist Eric Church has revealed that his Mom thought his song “Two Pink Lines” was about “Pink Lions”. So he did what any good son would do. He put some Pink Lion wallpaper up in his Nashville Bar.
File that one under “He said…She heard.”
FRIENDLIEST STATES
According to World Population Review, the 5 friendliest states in the US are Wyoming, Texas, South Carolina, and Tennessee, essethe e and #1 friendliest is the state of Minnesota.
The unfriendliest state? That would be New York.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Death Is Nations Top Killer. (An actual headline folks. Wonder how much research they did to come up with that?)
TODAY
I’m off to write with Rick Lang who’s in town from Maryland today to write songs in person instead of online. Rick gets a LOT of his songs recorded in the bluegrass genre. I’m hoping we can pen another one like that today!
Have a great Tuesday.
