BILL BLOG
Friday March 21, 2025
And a good Friday morning to you from southern Georgia. 66 for the high today after having frost warnings here in the deep south last night. It got down to 39 degrees last night in Americus.
I'm in the eastern time zone today so this blog is loading up a little earlier than normal today.
YESTERDAY
Our Evening in the Round trio with Linda Davis, Lang Scott and myself drove from Nashville to the southern Georgia city of Americus. Columbus, Georgia would be the biggest city near Americus. Population 15,000 or so. It was a 6-and-a half-hour drive over about 400 miles. The miles flew by though as the conversation on the road always helps shorten the drives.
We saw a lot of wide-open farm country and red dirt clay, especially when we rolled into the Peach State. And this is the historic hotel we’re staying in.
The Windsor Hotel was originally built in 1888 and was lovingly rebuilt in the 70’s. Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter attended opening ceremonies.
Just a really cool hotel to get to spend a couple of nights. It sits right in the middle of the downtown area and it’s within walking distance of some great restaurants and anything else we might need.
I’m going to hate turning in my hotel key when we have to check out Saturday after our show here tonight.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today it’s “If It Ain’t One Beer It’s Another” that Brady Seals recorded. I had this title in my back-pocket one writing day and Brady loved it and quickly put a great up-tempo melody to this country drinking song. It gave me a chance to drop in the word Hula Popper” which is an old fishing lure I pulled out of my tackle box when I fished on farm lakes in Missouri back in the day.
Listen for it in the song.
RADIO SHOW SONG
My friend Kennedy Scott sent me a link to listen to the Blue Plate Special show over in Knoxville while I was traveling to Georgia yesterday. Kennedy is one of the girls in the “Three Times A Lady” trio.
The girls are over at Dollywood right now doing like a six-week residency. But yesterday they were on a “live” radio show on WDVX in Knoxville and they sang a song “live” that I had written with Kennedy and one of the other girls in the trio Victoria Camp. It’s likely to be included on their next album. And it sure sounded great on the radio yesterday!
The song is titled “I Didn’t Know You Could Do Me That Way.” As soon as the girls record it, I’ll be sharing it here on the blog for sure.
HEALTH NOTES
Research suggests 11% to 14% of men and 19% to 23% of women in the US will develop dementia during their lifetimes. And based on the numbers researchers predict that rate could double by a million new cases per year by 2060.
On a more positive note, there’s an anti-amyloid drug that is showing signs of preventing dementia.
A report claims that 85% of cannabis users drive afterwards.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Yep…that would be a small town.
WHO KNEW?
In France some famers us acupuncture on their cows. They say it can boost immunity, improve milk production, and help with cow pain and other issues. Uh huh.
I had an acupuncture treatment ONE time in hopes it might ease the Bells Palsy I was experiencing for the 3rd time in my life. The woman who pricked me with needles and then performed deep tissue massage near my eye had me begging for mercy. Geez. She weighed all of 95 pounds I think at one time she asked, “Dr. Chen hurt you”? And I said, #$%@ yes Dr. Chen hurt me!
And it did not increase my milk production one danged bit!
THEM AND US
The Boston Celtics just sold for 6 BILLION dollars. The guy who bought the team is not a songwriter. William Chisholm owns a private equity firm. 6 billion bucks folks. I wonder how much that is per dribble?
THE WHEEL
Vanna White says she has worn more than 8,000 gowns on that TV show. She started flipping vowels back in 1982. She’s making 10 million a year right now to do so right now and she only has to work 34 days a year to film the Wheel of Fortune.
If she works another 100 years or so she might be able to afford to buy 1/50th of the Boston Celtics.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
17-Year-Old Wakes Up From Knee Surgery, Can Only Speak In A Foreign Language. (Gosh. It would have been much less painful to have just bought Rosetta Stone.)
TODAY
Our show at the Rylander Theatre here in Americus, Georgia starts at 8 pm in that historic theatre.
Originally built in 1921 as a vaudeville theater. It closed in 1951 and was rebuilt and then reopened in 1999. And it a nod to their historic past they still hold organ concerts from time to time.
And it’s just a block or so away from our hotel. We love it when cities restore their old theaters and our “Evening in the Round” trio is looking forward to playing there tonight.
Back to Nashville tomorrow.
Have a great weekend!
