Georgia Road Trip...Opry Celebration...AI Ordering

BILL BLOG

Thursday March 20, 2025

Thursday morning, the guitar is zipped up in its case, ready for a road trip to Georgia.

A storm blew through last night with 75 mph winds for a bit and we were without power for about an hour or so. After being in the 70s yesterday, today’s high will be just 46 degrees with some rain. However, it will be a 62-degree high in Americus, Georgia, where I’m headed later this morning.

And it’s the first day of Spring!

YESTERDAY

I wrote a fun song with Adam Pope who’s married to Amy. The two of them are a duo that travels and sings all over the country. And they take their two young kids with them wherever they go and somehow make all that work. I admire that for sure.

Those two are recording a new album right now that will have a couple of songs on it that Adam and I wrote together. I got to hear the rough mix on those yesterday and they sound great. Our mutual friend Darin Aldridge of Darin and Brooke Aldridge is producing so no wonder they sound so great.

SONG OF THE DAY

Since I wrote with Adam yesterday, I thought I’d share this song that he and his wife Amy recorded that the two of us wrote “Lord All I Need Is You” that’s on their current album.

The two of them are in the studio working on their new album which will have two songs that Adam and I penned together. Can’t wait to share those.

GOOD MUSIC NEWS

I got word yesterday that my friend Alex Miller was in the recording studio laying down a song the two of us wrote a few months back. Producer Jerry Salley sent me a little video to let me listen in to a bit of it as it was being recorded. Alex is that American Idol kid that everyone seems to know when he walks in almost anywhere. Excited for his new album coming out later this year, and excited that one of our songs will be on the project.

OPRY 100

The Opry celebrated its 100th birthday on TV last night in a star-studded event. I totally forgot it was on and missed it so I’ll be looking for a rebroadcast of the show.

Carrie Underwood paid a very sweet tribute to Randy Travis who was there by singing two of Randy’s songs. It was Randy who invited Carrie to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

And Keith Urban sang “Brown Eyes Blue” to my friend Crystal Gayle who I worked with a bunch when I was young and had a band back in Missouri.

Just a really nice thing Keith did last night. I’ve had the pleasure of being around him a couple of times. He’s a great entertainer but he’s also a great interview as well.

100 years for the Grand Ole Opry. It’s still where every country singer wants to be someday standing in that Grand Ole Circle that inspired the song that I wrote with Darin & Brooke Aldridge who are regulars now on the Opry stage. Congrats to the Opry!

HEALTH NOTES

A study is saying that only 1 of every 10 back treatments work.

A new outbreak of deadly bird flu strain has been confirmed for the first time in 8 years.

Research is suggesting that low-carb diets may increase colorectal cancer risk.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

They actually dug a hole and planted that thing!

FRIENDLY

Finland is once again deemed the happiest country in the world according to the World Happiness Report. (Who knew that existed?)

The top 5 happy countries were pretty much Nordic. It gets cold in those countries so I have no idea how they can be that happy!

The unhappiest country is Afghanistan. And here is the US?  We come in as 24th most happy.

CARRY THAT LOAD

How about this 26-year-old who carries women up a mountain?

Tour guide Xiao Chen makes about $46,000 extra per year carrying a lot of women up the final steps at a popular mountain in China. Wonder if he knows that only 1 of every 10 back treatments works?

AI WORLD

Yesterday morning at my writing session Adam Pope and I were talking about AI and its influence already in music. I can now write a song if I want to and have AI generate the singer, the musicians, and even the lyrics if I wanted to. Exciting, sad and scary all at the same time. The future I suppose for some.

After we finished our writing session Adam made a stop at a Bojangles and sent me this picture.

Never thought we’d be ordering chicken with AI.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Mimes Banned for Abusive Language. (Someone must have been listening VERY carefully)

TODAY

Road trip time to Americus, Georgia with Linda Davis and Lang Scott. We have an 8 pm show at the Rylander Theatre on Friday night. We’re all looking forward to entertaining the folks in southern Georgia. So tomorrow’s blog will be coming to you from the Peach State.

Have a great Thursday.

Storm Weary...Wrestling Church...Gators

BILL BLOG Friday April 4, 2025  Friday morning in soggy Nashville.   YESTERDAY It was another day of storms, tornadoes, and a whole lot of flooding. And it sounds like we could get more and nobody wants that. Folks are storm-weary from the constant flood and tornado warnings that have been lighting up our phones for the past couple of days and nights. Hallways have become bedrooms for some. Schools are still closed today because of the flooding and damage and the weather forecast predicts that we are still not done with this system that just won’t go away. There are now 5 confirmed deaths so far.   Across the region where these storms have been constant the weather service has issued over 300 tornado warnings. There were a lot of big wind-walls like this one that hit near Nashville.   Selmer, Tennessee…also near Nashville was really hit hard.   Our house is on a hill so we don’t worry much about flooding. But I’m going to...

A Baby Song...Parrot Head Show...Spring Break

BILL BLOG Wednesday April 16, 2025   Over the hump we try to go. It’s Wednesday. The high will be 69 in Nashville today but we’re going up into the 80’s for the rest of the week. It’s going to start feeling like summer around here.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Katrina Burgoyne , who moved here from Australia several years ago, got married, and is now the mom of a 1-year-old girl. And that little girl and the first year of being a mom in a new country was weighing on her heart. She had a start on a song that spoke to that, and I got to jump in and help her finish the song. These are the kinds of songs that will make a mom cry during the songwriting process, as Katrina did yesterday. That’s a good sign that the tune might touch the hearts of other moms whenever she sings this anywhere. I was happy to be her co-writer on this yesterday.     MOTM GIG I found out yesterday that my friend Brent Burns and I will be playing a show on one of the ma...

Shows Ahead...A New Line Dance...Tax Day

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 15, 2025  And a Happy Tuesday to y’all. Another storm rolled through here late last night that got a little loud. After a high of 84 in Nashville yesterday we’ll have a high of just 63 today. And that’s why the storm rolled through I’m guessing.   YESTERDAY I had yesterday off from any appointments so I caught up on some things. My calendar will be full of traveling and shows in the back half of the year, so it’s nice to have some downtime for the next couple of months. Here’s a look at the upcoming shows through the end of May.   Thursday, May 1 I’ll be at the Listening Room Café here in Nashville with “Hits & Grins” alongside Steve Dean and Victoria Venier . This will be a 6 pm dinner show.   Friday May 2, I’m at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville for a private corporate event where myself and several other writers will be writing songs with corporate folks that will then be turned into line dances. ...
