Thursday morning already in Nashville…and it’s another packing day for a road trip.
77 for the high in Music City after hitting almost 80 here yesterday. That warm weather brings a chance of significant storms tomorrow and Saturday.
YESTERDAY
I wrote with Becky Denton up in Paris, Missouri for the first time in a bit. She and her talented husband drummer-piano player Will Denton both keep busy playing music together or separately. Originally Becky was to have been down in Nashville for a few days, but that changed and we ended up writing a new song online yesterday morning.
Becky and I were introduced years ago by a mutual friend from my hometown of Montgomery City and we’ve been friends and co-writers since. The first song we wrote together was “I Love Dolly” because that’s Becky’s favorite artist. And she’s recorded three or four more of our songs since that time.
And yesterday we added a new tune to our catalog.
SONG OF THE DAY
Yesterday I mentioned how my talented friend and co-writer Jenny Tolman would be competing on a new CBS show this Fall called “The Road" which is produced by Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan, the producer of those big hit TV shows “Yellowstone”, “Tulsa” and more.
The show will be using parts of some songs that Jenny and I have written together with her husband and producer Dave Brainard. This is one of those songs “I Know Some Cowboys”.
Should be fun sitting on the couch watching Jenny compete with some of our tunes.
RETIRED VIDEO
Another friend, Nana Dee Mascitti was at a house concert that I played with her talented granddaughter Lauren Mascitti and our mutual friend Wil Nance and she captured me singing “Retired” on what we call her Nana-Cam. If you click the link you’ll be able to see what she filmed.
Lauren, Wil, and myself will be playing that same house concert for a second time on Saturday evening April 12 at the home of Robert and Lori Hill just south of Nashville. And I understand we will be celebrating Lori’s 70th birthday that evening. That should make our repeat appearance even more fun.
HEALTH NOTES
California is saying they need a 3.4 billion-dollar loan to close a budget gap in the state’s Medicaid program.
Research shows that listening to Mozart might help with everything from pregnancy to epilepsy.
Bird flu has arrived in Antarctica threatening penguins and seabirds.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Pretty sure I don’t want to be headed to heaven “extra-crispy”.
TORNADO ALLEY
The Alley forever for tornadoes was over to the west a bit. Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas. Now weather folks tell us that Tornado Alley is now Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky, and yes…Tennessee. Great. Makes me wish I had not sold my motorcycle helmet all those years ago.
GOVT
The good ole government looks like it could be shutting down. Same ole same stuff we’ve been through before.
In the words of comedian Conan O’Brien, “So folks, get ready for absolutely no difference.”
GOVERNMENT JOKE
Not mine, but someone offered this.
“After his 8th failed rocket attempt, I think it’s safe to say that Elon Musk has projectile dysfunction.”
THE SINGING SURGEON
How about this plastic surgeon who sang “The Dance” to a patient before surgery. Check out this VIDEO.
He operates in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Each patient can request their own song. Which song would you have him sing before your surgery?
Wonder if he knows the “Mississippi Squirrel Revival” by Ray Stevens?
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Parents Keep Kids Home to Protest School Closure. (That’ll show em’)
TODAY
I’m off to write with my friend Mark Houser who is coming i to town to write with a young female artist named Emily Hadley who I’ll be meeting and working with for the first time.
Mark recorded a song the two of us wrote on his current gospel-bluegrass album “Gospel Train” titled “Where You Choose to Go”. And I am happy to know that his album has already had a #1 song! Congrats to Mark.
PACKING
This evening I’ll be packing the guitar and a bag for a two-day trip down to Huntsville, Alabama with four other songwriters to once again write songs with veterans that will be performed in concert on Saturday night.
Looking forward to being part of that experience again.
Have a great Thursday!
