Giving Away Radio Money...Walk With Me Song...Jerry Jones The Actor

BILL BLOG

Tuesday January 11, 2025

It be Tuesday! A cold Tuesday. A high at the freezing mark today of 32.

We did get a light dusting of snow yesterday. It did not stick to the roads so Nashville was luckier than other nearby states. But it’s turned cold enough to make one put long underwear on over their long underwear.

YESTERDAY

Pretty boring here around the Whyte House yesterday. I got out early and tested our roads because I had a “have to do” thing to take care of.  But once that was done? It got pretty quiet and un-busy. But I did spend some time with a guitar working on song ideas for co-writes coming up this week.

THROWBACK

This popped up on You Tube over the weekend and brought back some radio memories. Check out this VIDEO of me and my then morning radio partner Scott Dolphin trying to give away $20,000!  And check out the mullets. Those were the days. And Scott is STILL doing the morning show all these years later up there. That’s a long run in one place in radio. Folks up there are lucky to wake up with him. We had way too much fun working together.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing the Irene Kelley song “Walk With Me Today” that she recorded on her Benny’s TV Repair album. Benny was Irene’s Dad who had a little TV repair business in the basement of the home she grew up in in the state of Pennsylvania. This is certainly one of my favorite bluegrass-gospel songs I’ve ever helped write and I thank Irene for the idea.

It was one of the first songs we wrote together sitting at her kitchen table one morning. She played me the start of the idea and I loved it and felt blessed to contribute to it. And when she recorded the song she added our talented friends Darin & Brooke Aldridge to sing harmony on it. To me it sounds a bit like an old familiar hymn. Listen and see what you think.

HEALTH NOTES

Bad news. Louisiana became the first state to report a human dying from bird flu in the US.

And flu rates are surging all across the US. Only five state report low levels of the flu. South Dakota, Delaware, West Virginia, and the very lowest levels were recorded in Vermont and Montana.

Add to that HMPV cases are increasing in China and the US. Yet another infectious disease to worry about.

SIGN

And there’s your visual this morning. Gramps on a ramp.

LEAVING

According to Atlas Van Line these are the top 5 states folks are leaving these days. Louisiana, South Dakota, Illinois, and of course California and New York.

Reasons given?  High taxes, not enough jobs and the high cost of living in some states…like California where the MEDIAN price of a home in the LA area is now $1,094,000. Experts claim you need to around $240,000 per year to be able to live in the LA area. Yep…I think I’d make a call to Atlas Van Line as well.

SAGE ADVICE

A 100 year old woman is the oldest employee at a Home Depot store. She works their twice a week…drives herself to work. She admits that she has unretired 3 times now claiming, “I got so tired of myself”.

I admit, I have gotten to a point in my life to where when I have a couple or 3 days of nothing to really “have to do” that I think I could master the retirement thing. But deep down I know I’d probably suck at it.

There are signs however of when you’ve reached that time in your life. One sign is in this joke.

How do you know when you’re getting to retirement age?  You go to an antique auction and three people bid on you.

Not a good sign. Now if I played golf as well as my brother Gary does...then maybe I could see myself selling my guitars and buying new golf clubs and getting a membership at a Country Club somewhere. BUT...here's what my golf game is like these days.

So that's out.

YIKES

We have not taken our Christmas tree down yet and already I’m seeing articles and ads for Valentine Day. Way too much pressure. I ran out of unique ideas of what to give my wife for Valentines years ago. And dressing up as Cupid doesn’t really do anything for her anymore. Sigh.

And this cake I baked for her last year on Valentine Day did nothing for her either.

Good luck to all the guys this year.

GOLDEN GLOBES

Those were handed out a couple of nights ago. If you’re wondering why they call that awards show “The Golden Globes”…

There ya go.

SPEAKING OF ACTING

It turns out that the owner of the Dallas Cowboy Jerry Jones has acting chops. Taylor Sheridan, the producer of the hit series “The Landman” starring Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore and Jon Hamm knew something the rest of us didn’t know apparently when he put Jerry Jones into this hospital scene. Watch THIS and you’ll see he’s no slouch.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Help! I Moved To A New Country And Somehow My Mom Still Found Me. (Yep…I think a lot of Mom’s stick an Apple Tag on their kids without the kid knowing it.)

TODAY

My songwriting appointment was cancelled for today as my co-writer is down with strep throat. Nasty stuff…been there. And a lot of it seems to be going around right now. Stay healthy y’all.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
