BILL BLOG
Monday December 2, 2024
Monday morning and look. We’ve rolled into December believe it or not. Colder here today in Music City with a high of just 37 and low dipping down to just 23 above tonight.
THE WEEKEND
A bit lazy around the Whyte House. The turkey from Thanksgiving made it all way through the weekend and I got to the gym a couple of times for the “second helpings” guilt. Okay…third helpings guilt.
I watched a lot of football. 8 overtimes in the Georgia-GA Tech game before the Bulldogs finally won. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen an 8 OT game before. And then I saw a bunch of brawls on rivalry Saturday. Pretty sure Mike Tyson hasn’t been in that many fights. Geez.
SHOW THIS WEEKEND
Tickets are on sale for Friday night when I’ll be at the Grand Ole Barn again at Starstruck Farms (Reba’s old place) with my “Hits & Grins” partners Steve Dean & Victoria Venier. It’s dinner and a show at 7:30 at this really cool venue.
It’s housed inside the rebuilt horse stables that Reba used to own when she lived on this property. And the stables themselves have been converted into rooms you can rent.
So you can come and catch our show and then overnight if you’d like!
MEANWHILE
My daughter and son in law were checking out the famous Christmas markets in Germany over the weekend and caught this great picture of one of them beneath a train trestle.
I’m hoping they didn’t buy me a pair of Christmas lederhosen from my Christmas present this year.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today I’m choosing “If That’s What Love Was” from Australian country Artist Roo Arcus who took this song I wrote with my friend Jerry Salley all the way to the #2 spot on the Australian Country Charts. Roo is a real life rancher over there…similar vibe to George Strait in his music. Jerry produced the album and this track that turned out so great. Thank you Roo & Jerry.
HEALTH NOTES
More than 10,000 units of eggs were recalled from Costco for potential salmonella contamination.
An expert says that some beer drinking is actually good for your health. Craft brews in particular. They have more antioxidants that fight bad things in your body and can reduce the risk of many diseases including cancers. So lift a glass…and here’s to your health.
A study claims that with a more active lifestyle, the average adult could add 5.3 years to their life.

CYBER MONDAY
That would be today. A lot of folks are going to be staring at their computer screens looking for bargains. One Cyber Monday enthusiast describes it as, “the day when you can get a great deal on something you didn’t want yesterday.”
FYI
Online sales for Black Friday topped 10.8 billion dollars. And that made for thin lines in retail stores. I can remember thinking online shopping would never replace shopping in stores. Wrong.
If you do the math they say we spent 11.3 million dollars every minute on Black Friday.
WEIRD STORY OF THE WEEKEND
A Syracuse female sports reporter is claiming the Miami mascot hit on her as Syracuse went on to upset the Miami Hurricanes in that football game. She shot him, her, it down…so both the Miami Hurricanes and it’s mascot lost this weekend. File this one under “things you just can’t make up.”
WEARABLES
Some new research is saying that “wearables” like smart
watches will one day be able to detect our mood. Cool…but I won’t need to drop
a lot of change on of those as I still have one of these.
RE-OPENING
They are reopening Notre Dame in Paris this week after that horrific fire that almost destroyed it back in 2019. And she’s looking pretty good again.
Pretty amazing what the restorers and artists have done. In the U.S. I don’t find myself looking up at a ceilings a lot. But when I was in Europe…especially Italy…I found myself looking up all the time.
SPEAKING OF LOOKING UP
A lot of folks were looking up at the hot air balloon during this year’s rainy Macy Day’s Thanksgiving. Or…staring at their TV screens. 31.3 MILLION watched it this year and that’s an all-time record. Don’t downplay the power of Spider Man!
SPEAKING OF RECORDS
Moana 2…the movie shattered the Thanksgiving Day weekend record raking in $221 million at the box office. Closest movie opening to that was Frozen II in 2019 when it took in $125 million. Proof that if you can make a movie that the kids beg Mom and Dad to see…you’re going make a lot of money.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Connecticut 3 Million Dollar Mansion In Flames On Thanksgiving As Residents Fried A Turkey In Their Garage. (I'm sure that seemed like such a good idea at the time.)
TODAY
Nothing on the books today so I’ll be spending some time trying Christmas shopping…or maybe THINKING about Christmas shopping.
Have a great Monday!
