A Polka...A Christmas Gift...A Show Tonight

BILL BLOG

Friday December 6, 2024

Friday morning and the weekend is on us. And I’ve got a show tonight with “Hits & Grins” to get ready for. Bring your coat tonight as it’s going to drop down to just 17 degrees after a high of 35 today in Nashville.

YESTERDAY

It was a day of running. Fixing a guitar, fixing a computer. Stuff that had to be done kind of day. I think my computer is dying a slow death…and I think they’re designed that way! Ya get so many years and then it’s time to get a new one. This one got a new battery…so she’s got a little life left in it if I’m lucky.

I keep trying to convince Mrs. Santa around here that a new computer would be a GREAT gift idea. The problem is I don’t think she realizes how GOOD I’ve been all year. I’ve got some convincing to do.

SONG OF THE DAY

How about a polka today? This is a song that I wrote with the Polka Queen Lynn Marie and her talented husband Eddie Roddick Jr. Several years ago Lynn called me with a germ of an idea about celebrating good times. And I sat down and wrote a lot of it with the song surrounding itself with those times when we should celebrate. Birthdays, 4th of July, Octoberfest, etc. And when I sat down and played it for them they both loved it and the two of them tweaked it a little and it went on a new album for her.

And the little song went #1 on a Polka Chart believe it or not. And yes…they do have one of those!  It’s catchy and fun. Check on the link and “Celebrate” a little.

SPEAKING OF POLKAS

My wife and I got this great Christmas gift for our daughter and son in law Heather & Casey Peterson who are stationed with the Army in Germany. A unique advent calendar.

They sent one of these last year and we truly loved it, so we’re so glad they did this again as we get to open one gift from them in December through Christmas Day. We were five days behind by the time it arrived from Germany so we opened 5 of gifts with them on Facetime last night. LOT of German candy so far!  Great for my girlish figure.

Some of the gifts were handmade by my daughter and this would be a great way to celebrate Christmas for a lot of families that are separated for Christmas. Certainly for military families that won’t be able to have their sons and daughters at home. Thank you Casey and Heather for this great gift.

HEALTH NOTES

Research shows more than 150 million mental diagnoses may be linked to lead in gasoline.

Surgery trends are showing that women are moving away from the “Kardashian” look and are removing breast and butt implants to look slimmer.

A study is suggesting that drinking Cocoa may protect your body from fatty foods and stress.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

And right now most of those yelling are Amazon Prime delivery folks.

THEM AND US

Elon Musk saw his shares in Tesla hit a record 52 week high. And that made him 14 BILLION dollars richer. My investment in Ford Pintos did not do nearly as well.

TOP CITIES

The publication Euromonitor just listed the Top 100 cities in the world. Here’s their Top 5 in reverse order.

Milan, Rome, Tokyo, Madrid and the #1 Top City is Paris once again.

New York came in #6…and the other U.S. Cities that made that list are further down in the ranking. Vegas, Orlando, Miami and Frisco.

MEANWHILE

The Wanderlust online publication listed the Top 25 Most Beautiful Cities. Again in reverse order those would be…

Bruges, Belgium, Edinburgh, Scotland, Cape Town, South Africa, Venice and #1 for them is Kyoto, Japan.

Only 2 U.S. cities made that list. Frisco at 19 and Chicago at 25.

If I had to vote?  It would be hard not to name Venice as #1 after seeing it first hand with my wife a few years ago.

SPEAKING OF ITALY

The Pope is going all electric. At least what he rides in is. He’ll be cruising around now in an all-electric Pope Mobile. So the Pope can sneak up on you now I guess.

HELLO DOLLY!

The Dolly Parton musical is coming to Broadway filled with classic Dolly songs and some new ones that she’s writing for the show. AND…it’s an open casting call. You can go online and take your best shot. I’m guessing that may want a certain kind of look…probably.

Remember Dolly herself once said of her best assets, “People always ask me if they’re mine. Yes, they are…all bought and paid for”.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Who Was Pronounced Dead, Wakes To Find She Gave Birth To Triplets. (I would think that normally the doctor would tell a woman she’s having triplets and THEN she would die.)

TODAY

I’m off to write this morning with the talented Lauren Mascitti…one of the truly great young country singers in this town. I’m looking forward to a couple of shows that I’ll be doing with her. A house concert in January just south of Nashville.

And then on December 29 at a little place called “Main and Monroe” located in Livingston, Tennessee. Two shows that day.

TONIGHT

I’m doing a dinner show with Steve Dean and Victoria Venier at the “Grand Ole Barn” at Starstruck Farms in Lebanon, Tennessee on Reba’s old property. Dinner and a show tonight…and I’m pretty sure we’ll be singing a couple of Christmas tunes. Should be fun.

Have a great weekend!

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
