And here come a Thursday. A high of just 49 in Nashville today.
YESTERDAY
I had the pleasure of writing with Andrea Pearson for the first time since she had her second little girl. So she has a double blessing in her life and then she has to hang out with me!
Andrea is in the recording studio a LOT as she’s in demand to sing harmony or lead on demos in this town. And it was a pleasure to hear her singing a new grassy kind of song we wrote together yesterday…her first bluegrass song I believe.
Truly a fun morning of catching up and writing with her.
CMA’S LAST NIGHT
The big winners were Chris Stapleton and Morgan Wallen. Chris picked up 3 awards and gave a couple of great performances and Morgan Wallen (who was not there) won Entertainer of the Year. Actor Jeff Bridges, who I like a lot, announced the winner as Morgan Waylon. Quite the embarrassing way to end this year’s CMA Awards show. Geez.
I thought Kacey Musgraves stripped down performance of “The Architect" with her vocal and a guitar was the best musical moment of the night. Simple and beautiful.
Ashley McBryde did the same kind of thing when she honored the late Kris Kristofferson with a great version of “Help Me Make It Through The Night.”
I thought the hosts were fair together. Lainey Wilson who was named “Female Vocalist of the Year” co-hosted for the first time with Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning. Personally, I think Peyton would do great as a solo host.
THE COMMENTARY
If you followed my coverage on Facebook last night of the CMA Awards…thanks for following along. Of the 40 or so posts I made last night…these two received the most response.
My friend Lang Scott is going to stick fishing lures all over his face. Me? I’m going to tattoo my calories on my face. We’re going on tour as Bellyroll and Tackle Box.
I want to stay sober this year so my CMA drinking game this year is to take a shot every time they hand an award to a traditional country singer.
Congratulations to all the winners last night.
SONG OF THE DAY
Something “beachy” today from my buddy Brent Burns “Come Play In My Sandbox”…an idea I had…a different way of saying come to the beach. It’s a nice boy-girl story. One lives on the beach, the other in a big city. Listen and see what happens.
HEALTH NOTES
More carrots are being recalled because of that deadly E-coli outbreak.
Researchers say that a slower walking pace could be a sign of cognitive decline or dementia.
Some other researchers are suggesting that Ozempic can help fight addiction.
BE FOREWARNED
Man…that must be a REALLY rough road. And that reminds me that on a recent road trip with Linda Davis and Lang Scott we saw a sign on a store advertising “Cheap Dentures”. All three of us agreed that if we ever had to buy a set of choppers that we didn’t want CHEAP dentures.
ON THE RICH SIDE OF THINGS
The Kiplinger folks say that to be in the richest 2% of the country you need to have 2.7 million in the bank. If you can somehow get there…you’ll never have to wear cheap dentures. I’m already thinking about looking for another job.
ART?
Somehow…this banana duct taped to a board of some kind got sold for 6.2 MILLION dollars!
You can duplicate it in about 3 minutes if you have a roll of duct tape and a banana. I’m working on super glueing a cumquat on a piece of canvas later today. Cant’ wait to see what the opening bid might be on that bad boy. I’ll even sign my artist name on it…Billcasso.
EXORCISE
There’s a pastor who says he performs exorcisms. And he’ll only charge you $385 to get rid of your demons. Sort of a religious experience I suppose. I’ve found a cheaper way to get rid of them.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Statistics Show That Teen Pregnancy Drops Off Significantly After Age 25. (You don’t say)
TODAY
I’m rhyming with Rick Lang who’s album of songs on his project “Blue Collar Gospel” is still tearing up the charts…and Kristy Cox who has an album doing the same kind of thing, both of which I have songs on. In fact, Kristy’s song “God Never Made A Mountain” that I wrote with my friends Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling just showed up in the #8 spot on this week’s bluegrass gospel chart. Woo Hoo!
This will be the first time the three of us have written together. Wish us luck.
Have a great Thursday.
