Terry Bradshaw Sings...Festivals...Losing Streak

BILL BLOG

Tuesday August 6, 2024

Hello Tuesday. Another warm one in Nashville today. In fact, when I pulled up the weather map it was orange. Mid 90’s again today.

I don’t want to say it’s hot…but…

YESTERDAY

I wrote a new “fun” up-tempo bluegrass song with my talented friend Troy Engle on the computer once again. It’s a funny thing. We’ve written, gosh maybe 15 or more songs together and we’ve yet to meet face to face. It’s all been on a computer with him in his Pennsylvania home and me here in Nashville at the Whyte House. Someday I suppose a face to face will happen.

Troy’s new album back home is out this Friday and he was nice enough to write down my address so I expect to see one of these in my mailbox in a few days. Can’t wait to hear the entire album, and the two songs I helped him write “Back Home” and the current single “Never Too Lost”.

I’ve mentioned it more than once on this blog but Troy plays EVERY instrument. And he plays them well…and produces and sings. Geez. He’s sat in and played with a “who’s who” of country stars, but recently he got a call to go play fiddle in a band that was playing behind Terry Bradshaw. Yep. THAT Terry Bradshaw. And he told me he was funny and could NOT have been more fun to be around. He’s a “what you see on TV” is “what you get in person” kind of guy. And he’s not a half bad country singer.

I found that out at my first radio job in Missouri all those years ago when a 45 RPM record came into the studio from Terry Bradshaw. I remember thinking, “this probably won’t be very good.” The song was the classic “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” from Hank Williams. Listen HERE and you can hear for yourself that Terry is not half bad as a country singer.

ROAD AHEAD

I normally play the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival every year which is coming up August 16-18 but will miss it for the first time this year because of another commitment. And I also have played the “Blast On The Bay” songwriters festival in beautiful Port St. Joe, Florida every year as well but will miss that one too for the same reason. I have a couple shows that conflict this year.

But while I will miss those, I will be at the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival in Gulf Shores-Orange Beach again. November 7, 8 and 9 with one extra show on Veteran’s Day November 11 that will be held in the Flora Bama Main Listening Room with Freedom Sings USA. This show will feature some of the songs I’ve helped write with veterans through the past several years alongside some other writers who have done the same. Last year the room was PACKED…so get there early if you plan on coming.

And for the first time in a long while I’ll be playing at the Pensacola Songwriters Festival the weekend of October 4, 5 and 6.

Hard to beat playing on the beach…and I’m looking forward to both of these great festivals this year.

HEALTH NOTES

The WHO, CDC, consider declaring an mpox international public health emergency.

A study warns women that wearing shapewear can cause circulatory problems, your breathing can be impacted, you can have muscle pain and weakness and have exacerbated digestive issues. (But hey…you’ll look good!)

A report claims that turmeric and green tea are among a list of supplements putting some folks in the hospital.

ONE STOP SHOPPING

Something for her, something for you.

WALL STREET
I try not to look at the stock market numbers. They go up, they go down. If you’ve watched lately though you’ve surely reached for some Maalox.

Some comedian once suggested that the best stock to buy is marijuana stocks. “You buy high, you sell higher.”

SORRY TO HEAR

I read this morning that Wiley’s Comedy Club in Dayton, Ohio is closing its doors after being open 40 years. Significant to me because Mr. Wiley was kind enough to let me come there a couple of times and try my hand at stand-up comedy opening for his headliners. Dayton is going to be a bit less funny from now on.

BUY A HOUSE

Real estate experts listed 5 cities one should consider buying a home in because of value. Those cities are:

Riverside, California

New Albany, NY

Atlanta

Boise

And the best value is in the Hudson Valley region in New York.

The new AVERAGE price for a home in the country is now up to $513,000. So a value might be a good thing. I can’t imagine what my Dad would think if he were alive again and heard that the average price to buy a home is that figure.

FUNNY

Pretty sure I know which one is the Men’s Room.

A LOSING STREAK

The Chicago White Sox have now lost 21 games in a row. I’m not sure how that feat is possible but the Sox have managed to pull it off.

However, I do remember that my High School basketball team I played on…Elsberry Indians…lost every game we played one year. Elsberry is a very small town that played a St. Louis team once that year that beat us like 82-3. So now that I’m remembering that…I’m thinking the White Sox aren’t all that bad.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

New Study of Obesity Looks for A Larger Test Group. (Okay then)

TODAY
I’m off to write with my longtime friend Steve Dean who is going to introduce me to a young Australian singer-writer named Suzy J. We’ll write something today, and then tomorrow evening you can find the three of us in this songwriter show here in Nashville.

Come see us if you can.

Have a great Tuesday

A Seed Song...Happy Birthday...Beanie Babies

BILL BLOG Thursday July 18, 2024   Here it be…Thursday already. We had some needed rain roll in last night…pretty heavy and it’s going to cool things off here in Nashville. Today’s high will only be 83 after being in the high 90’s for several days. That’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air…literally.   YESTERDAY Another free day yesterday so pretty lazy around the Whyte House. I did some voting yesterday as the early round are up for voting in both the CMA Awards and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So I cast early votes in both…final round voting will come later. Good luck to all and there are so many who deserve to win.   A JINGLE I talked with my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton yesterday as she was in town with her talented husband Will Denton who plays both drums and piano and he was in Nashville prepping for a show with a Tom Petty tribute band that he’s part of. A couple of years ago the three of us wrote a song to pitch to the Merschman

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

Fishing Song...Great Album Review...A Promotion

BILL BLOG Friday July 19, 2024   Friday morning and we’re getting ready to jump into the weekend. Sunshine and an 84 high in Music City today.   YESTERDAY I spent yesterday morning writing a fun fishing-love kind of song with bluegrass artist Caroline Owens yesterday. Caroline can bait her own hook which I already knew so I wasn’t too surprised that she loved the song idea. She talked about hooking her ear a few times while fly-fishing, so I knew I had given this idea to the right artist.     And we got to wrap up the day with dinner at a great Mexican restaurant our publisher Joe Dan Cornett took us and the head of the label Jerry Salley and Billy Blue Recording artist Carson Peters out to lunch where we not only shared chips and salsa, but we shared a lot of laughs.   FYI…Carson Peters is an incredibly talented artist at just the age of 19. He appeared on the Jay Leno “Tonight Show” when he was just 8 years old, then played the Grand Ole Opry shortly
