North Carolina Rhymer...Yazoo...Fair Food

BILL BLOG

Friday August 23, 2024

Can it be the weekend already?  Yep…it’s Friday. Hotter here today in Nashville with a high of 91.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with young Larry Frick, a really good traditional country singer who lives in North Carolina online. He had his back to some beautiful countryside when he popped on my screen as he was out on the deck to take in some of the cooler weather we’ve both had lately. That’s about to change for some “hot” stuff again so I understood why he was sitting outdoors.

Larry lives on a farm that’s been in his family for 5 generations now. He’s the latest caretaker of the historic farm there in North Carolina. Pretty cool. He calls the place a work in progress but you can tell that it’s beautiful land that the old farmhouse sits on. And yesterday we didn’t fight against the grain…we wrote a “country” song to add to our little growing catalog. A morning well spent.

LAST NIGHT

I played a few songs at a local craft brewery named Yazoo for Freedom Sings USA with my buddy Steve Dean.

Beautiful evening but we had a few problems, word didn’t get out about what we were doing so the turnout was not enough to really do a show and provide education for the Chamber of Commerce folks that were to be there on the outdoor patio where we sat up.

So, we have rescheduled the event for Thursday night November 14…same place…6 pm start. So we knocked off early, and enjoyed the rest of the evening with a little of what Yazoo makes.

NEXT STOPS

That would be at Starstruck Farms in Lebanon, Tennessee with my “Hits & Grins” trio alongside Steve Dean and Victoria Venier. Dinner show…tickets are on sale right now for this August 31 show.

Then it’s  Marion, Illinois with Freedom Sings USA. That will be September 5, 6, and 7 with an outdoor concert in downtown Marion on that Saturday night to play the songs we wrote with veterans there on September 6. There will be a lot of red, white, and blue on display that night.

W H Y T E

I’m told my family’s last name is Scottish. A lot of tombstones with Whyte on it in the graveyards over there. But this picture sent to me from my friend Randy Brooks who wrote “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” came from Dublin, Ireland!

Some kind of mercantile store it looks like. I was in Dublin a few years ago and missed it!  I may have spent a little too much time in the Guinness Factory with the family. Maybe.

I’ll go look for it the next time I’m on the Emerald Isle.

HEALTH NOTES

A type of drug being developed to combat cancer could be repurposed to treat Alzheimer’s disease in its early stages.

The FDA has approved new COVID shots for both Moderna and Pfizer.

Some doctors are now saying more people aged 65 and over should be on Ozempic.

DENTAL BALLOONS

Whatever you’re medical situation is…you get a free balloon when you walk out.

THEM AND US

Jeff Bezos…the Amazon Prime dude just bought his 4th private jet. This one set him back 80 million dollars. 80 million. Chump change to him. The plane can almost go the speed of sound they say.

Proof again I suppose that his “same day delivery” to your door was a pretty good idea.

STATE FAIRS

Ya gotta love Fair food right?

At a fair somewhere right now you can get pickle pizza, deep fried Twinkies or Oreos (in the south it’s all fried) AND this bad boy.

Yep…a Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburger.

Wow…have one of those bad boys and you’ll be making a trip to that free balloon place I mentioned.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

I Named My Daughter After A Piece Of Furniture And Have Major Regrets.  (Chest of Drawers though does have a nice feminine ring to it though)

TODAY

I’m writing with Katrina Burgoyne today who’s a new Mama trying to figure out how to balance family and music. She’s very busy doing both right now. Kat is from Australia originally…living here full time with her hubby and daughter and still finding time to write songs like this sassy number we penned together and still playing shows. The lifestyle of a creative person.

Then it’s the weekend and I’m going to enjoy not having anything on the books because it’s the lull before a storm of shows that will have me gone almost every weekend from next weekend all the way through the middle of November. Check my TOUR tab here on the website to see where I’ll be.

Have a great weekend!

A Seed Song...Happy Birthday...Beanie Babies

BILL BLOG Thursday July 18, 2024   Here it be…Thursday already. We had some needed rain roll in last night…pretty heavy and it’s going to cool things off here in Nashville. Today’s high will only be 83 after being in the high 90’s for several days. That’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air…literally.   YESTERDAY Another free day yesterday so pretty lazy around the Whyte House. I did some voting yesterday as the early round are up for voting in both the CMA Awards and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So I cast early votes in both…final round voting will come later. Good luck to all and there are so many who deserve to win.   A JINGLE I talked with my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton yesterday as she was in town with her talented husband Will Denton who plays both drums and piano and he was in Nashville prepping for a show with a Tom Petty tribute band that he’s part of. A couple of years ago the three of us wrote a song to pitch to the Merschman

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

Fishing Song...Great Album Review...A Promotion

BILL BLOG Friday July 19, 2024   Friday morning and we’re getting ready to jump into the weekend. Sunshine and an 84 high in Music City today.   YESTERDAY I spent yesterday morning writing a fun fishing-love kind of song with bluegrass artist Caroline Owens yesterday. Caroline can bait her own hook which I already knew so I wasn’t too surprised that she loved the song idea. She talked about hooking her ear a few times while fly-fishing, so I knew I had given this idea to the right artist.     And we got to wrap up the day with dinner at a great Mexican restaurant our publisher Joe Dan Cornett took us and the head of the label Jerry Salley and Billy Blue Recording artist Carson Peters out to lunch where we not only shared chips and salsa, but we shared a lot of laughs.   FYI…Carson Peters is an incredibly talented artist at just the age of 19. He appeared on the Jay Leno “Tonight Show” when he was just 8 years old, then played the Grand Ole Opry shortly
