French Writing...New Show...Brisket On The Board!

BILL BLOG

Tuesday August 20, 2024

Tuesday do be here and it’s going to be pleasant in Music City. Sun and a high of just 83 today.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with Stuie French yesterday for the first time. Stuie is the Dad of the family band “The French Family Band” that features himself, his wife Camille, and their son Sonny.

The family is from Sydney, Australia. They made music Down Under successfully for years then moved to the states as a family 5 years ago. They’re getting ready to apply for status in the next little while.

Stuie is a gifted guitar player who plays on a lot of sessions here in town so it was really fun writing with someone who plays as well as he does. And we wound up writing something that we think will fit the voice of his wife perfectly. The family is working towards recording an album together soon…so hopefully this is a song they’ll consider seriously for that project when that time rolls around.

We’ll be writing together more in the future I’m sure.

NEW SHOW

I added a new show on December 28 of this year at Main and Monroe located in Lexington, Tennessee which is about an hour and a half from Nashville. 2 dinner shows that night with my talented friend and American Idol star Lauren Mascitti.

6 pm and 8 show at this great intimate venue that seats about 60 folks per show with great food. My friends musical partners in crime Linda Davis and Lang Scott just played there and talked about how great it was and they helped open the door for me and Lauren to play there on the 28th of December. So come join us for what is sure to be a great evening right before the New Year rings in.

HEALTH NOTES

Blood banks are searching for type O blood amid an emergency shortage.

A new study claims that children who do not get enough sleep are in a greater danger of getting hooked on drink or drugs.

Google AI can hear disease just in the sound of your cough. We are living in an AI world now for sure.

LOVE THIS

From actor Denzel Washington.

Amen.

BRISKET ON THE BOARD!

How cook is Buc-ee’s?  Cool enough for Keith Urban to throw up a stage on the one in Athens, Alabama where I’ve stopped a few times and throw a concert!

And…he found time to go inside and make brisket.

6,000 folks showed up for the pop-up show. Smart marketing as it created a lot of headlines and press for Keith. Keith Urban, brisket, and the cleanest bathrooms ever. Potent combination there.

EMOTIONAL

How about the woman in NYC who’s a tenant with not one or two but THREE emotional support parrots?  Uh huh. She just won $165,000 in a lawsuit after she was kicked out because of her birds. Uh huh.

It’s these kinds of headlines that drove my friend Brent Burns to write “Service Dog” that he recorded that gets his “live” audiences howling…literally!

DIFFERENT INSURANCE

In England a food truck owner is now offering a different kind of insurance to her customers. If their food they just bought gets stolen from the many seagulls nearby…they get another sandwich to replace it. Cost about a pound to buy with those pounds going to a local animal charity. Kind of cool actually.

JUST SO YOU KNOW

Eggo is now offering a coffee flavored waffle. Slip a pod in Keurig and out it comes into your favorite coffee cup.

I’m waiting for Kraft to deliver a mac and cheese flavored java.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Florida Doctor 84, Couldn’t Hear Colonoscopy Patient Screaming In Agony Because He Wasn’t Wearing His Hearing Aids

I'm still squirming and flinching after reading that.

TODAY

I’ll be back in the writing room with Adam Pope. He and his wife Amy have been kind enough to record a few of the songs I’ve written with them including this little beach “Alabama Coast”.

Have a great Tuesday.

A Seed Song...Happy Birthday...Beanie Babies

BILL BLOG Thursday July 18, 2024   Here it be…Thursday already. We had some needed rain roll in last night…pretty heavy and it’s going to cool things off here in Nashville. Today’s high will only be 83 after being in the high 90’s for several days. That’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air…literally.   YESTERDAY Another free day yesterday so pretty lazy around the Whyte House. I did some voting yesterday as the early round are up for voting in both the CMA Awards and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So I cast early votes in both…final round voting will come later. Good luck to all and there are so many who deserve to win.   A JINGLE I talked with my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton yesterday as she was in town with her talented husband Will Denton who plays both drums and piano and he was in Nashville prepping for a show with a Tom Petty tribute band that he’s part of. A couple of years ago the three of us wrote a song to pitch to the Merschman

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

Fishing Song...Great Album Review...A Promotion

BILL BLOG Friday July 19, 2024   Friday morning and we’re getting ready to jump into the weekend. Sunshine and an 84 high in Music City today.   YESTERDAY I spent yesterday morning writing a fun fishing-love kind of song with bluegrass artist Caroline Owens yesterday. Caroline can bait her own hook which I already knew so I wasn’t too surprised that she loved the song idea. She talked about hooking her ear a few times while fly-fishing, so I knew I had given this idea to the right artist.     And we got to wrap up the day with dinner at a great Mexican restaurant our publisher Joe Dan Cornett took us and the head of the label Jerry Salley and Billy Blue Recording artist Carson Peters out to lunch where we not only shared chips and salsa, but we shared a lot of laughs.   FYI…Carson Peters is an incredibly talented artist at just the age of 19. He appeared on the Jay Leno “Tonight Show” when he was just 8 years old, then played the Grand Ole Opry shortly
