BILL BLOG
Thursday August 22, 2024
Say hello to Thursday. Pleasant in Nashville today. Sunny and a high of 87 but it’s going to keep getting warmer. On Monday we could be near 100 degrees again for a high.
YESTERDAY
It was almost Fall like yesterday with sunshine and cooler temperatures and that felt great after the long “heat” roast we’ve been enduring for a few weeks. It turned into a lazy day with no appointments on my calendar. How lazy? The highlight of the day was grocery shopping with my wife that included mind bending conversations like “are any potato chips healthy”? She was glad to give me an answer. Just not the one I was looking for.
STILL ON THE CHARTS
This week’s Bluegrass Gospel Chart is out and THREE songs of mine are on there. “Blue Collar Gospel” from Jerry Salley and the Oak Ridge Boys at #2.
Church Bells-A Ringin’ with Danny Paisley and the all-star group of singers Barry Abernathy, Ben James and Bradley Walker at #8.
(TIP...when you listen to this song listen for the banjo intro and outro. Jerry Salley who produced it did a very clever thing and had the banjo player play a bit of the "Bells of St. Mary". Very cool)
And God Never Made A Mountain by Kristy Cox is at #12.
Wow. David Pugh…thank you for loving these songs so much and playing them!
HEALTH NOTES
Yep. There’s an app to help find loneliness. Several as a matter fact geared towards seniors. It helps put them in contact with others for interaction and conversations.
A US government report says fluoride at twice the recommended limit is linked to lower IQ in kids.
Jumping rope, not running or walking is the best exercise for losing calories according to those “fit” experts. 30 minutes jumping rope leads to a loss of 375 calories. Running drops 330.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Not from me but from someone on Twitter who posted this great thought.
Wonder how many different animals we had to try riding before discovering that horses were cool with it?
MARTY STUART
The country star has just donated over 22,000 artifacts that he’s collected through the years to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Marty is quite the country historian and has built some kind of collection through the years of things that mean something to country music and its history.
The first black suit Johnny Cash ever wore.
A rare Glen Campbell guitar.
A pair of George Jones boots.
And a Hank Williams manuscript with his written corrections for a 1947 recording of “I Saw The Light”.
And that’s just naming a few.
I’m a lifetime member of our beautiful Hall of Fame here and if you’ve never visited…you should. You’ll want to go back again. And for me it’s a bit surreal and always an honor to be invited to play there which I have several times over the years.
FOUR LETTER WORD STATES
The publication Word Tips just listed the most foul mouthed states in the country. According to the MOST foul mouth state is Maryland followed by Louisiana, Georgia, Virginia and Ohio.
The most foul mouthed CITY in the country? Buffalo. (But if you had to live in Buffalo in the winter wouldn’t you cuss a bunch too?)
DUDE WITH A SIGN
So there’s this guy that writes funny stuff on cardboard and then he hold ups his homemade sign. Here’s a couple of funny ones.
And this one made me laugh that he was holding up in front of a bunch of folks racing.
Good question!
CHIK
How about the new elevated Chik-fil-A drive-thru now open in Atlanta?
Folks will line up for that. Come to think of it…I’ve never been to a Chik-fil-A that doesn’t have a line…but it moves quickly which amazes me every time.
FYI…some here in the south refer to the tasty chicken as “Christian Crack”. Just so you know.
SPEAKING OF FAST FOOD
McDonald’s looks to be adding 24,000 jobs at new stores in the UK and Ireland. And you just know that some server at the Golden Arches in Ireland will be asking, “want Guinness with that”?
FUNNY HEADLINE
This one from the Babylon Bee folks.
New version of the ‘Operation’ game just has players use essential oils instead of performing a medical procedure.
TODAY
A double header. This morning I’m online writing with a young North Carolina singer and picker by the name of Larry Frick.
Then at 5 pm I’m playing at a local brewery for Freedom Sings USA with my friend Steve Dean for a private Chamber of Commerce event where Steve and I will play some of the songs we’ve written with our veterans that may help increase donations to the organization and will allow the two of us to talk about the healing therapy that happens when we write songs with those who protect our country. A pleasure to do so.
It is open to the public...so if you're nearby...drop in, have a cold one and hear some great songs written with true heroes.
Have a great Thursday!
