Up The Chart...3 Songs On A New Album...Old Driver

BILL BLOG

Friday May 31, 2024

Friday morning the LAST day of May. How can that possibly be true? Beautiful last day of the month though with sunshine and a high of 82 here in Twang Town today.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with the Father and son team of Barry & Will Hutchens. The two of them were in town from North Carolina to make a couple of recordings in studio and play a couple of Nashville shows so we found time to write something new together that was a tad quirky but fun.  Both are really good “country” singers and players and for me it’s fun to watch and hear them interact musically. This picture is of the two of them with me and my friend Jerry Salley after playing a show last year at the Bluebird Café which we are hoping to be able to do again later this year.

And this is an example of the song Will singing here.

Always great to work with family.

UP THE CHART!

Some great news today. The song “Blue Collar Gospel” that I helped write on the new Rick Lang album with Rick and producer Jerry Salley just soared to #2 on this leading gospel bluegrass chart today. Woo Hoo!  The song sung by Jerry and the Oak Ridge Boys is starting to make a little noise! I’m so glad Rick invited me to write this great idea he had that turned into the title song on this wonderful project.

NEW KRISTY COX ALBUM
The new Kristy Cox album is out today “Let It Burn” that I have three songs on. Pretty excited for folks to finally get to hear these.

My three songs are “Some Things Don’t Go Together” written with Wil Nance & Lisa Shaffer well over 15 years ago.

God NeverMade A Mountain” written with Josh Shilling & Andrea Pearson.

And “HowLucky Am I” written with Jimmy Fortune (who sings harmony on this) along with Sydni Perry. The song was inspired by my second Mom and former manager Dean Raymer whom we lost a couple of years ago.

If you click on the links you’ll now be able to take a listen to all three. Really proud of these songs and thank you Kristy for loving them enough to put them on your great new project!

HEALTH NOTES

A survey reveals that the majority of women would rather be healthy than beautiful if they had to choose.

In China doctors cured type-2 diabetes in a 59 year old patient by using stem cells from his blood to kickstart his pancreas into providing its own insulin. Providing hope that insulin injections could become a thing of the past with time.

Research shows that we start losing muscle mass at 30 and it gets worse with age. Workout folks.

MOVE EM IN…MOVE EM’ OUT

Nothing like hospitality.

PRETTY BRILLIANT

A dear friend of mine shared this online yesterday and said, “whoever wrote this is brilliant”. After reading it, I could not agree more.

Wow. I could not agree more. I can’t imagine how difficult it was to make that work in such a brilliant way.

MOST MOVED TO CITIES

In 2023 Wilmington, North Carolina and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina topped the list of most moved to cities in the country. Ocala, Florida was third.

Most folks are moving south. Tennessee had several cities on the list as well. A lot of them continue to move here into Nashville. And those that don’t move visit. We had 16.8 million visitors here last year! They left behind 10.56 BILLION dollars into our economy. The honkytonks and pedal taverns thank you.

STILL JAMMIN’ GEARS

Doyle Andre is 90 years young. He’s a truck driver…still. And he doesn’t plan on retiring. He just broke the Guinness record for being the world’s oldest truck driver. He’s driven 5.5 million miles in his truck over a 60 year period of time. Wonder how much coffee he’s consumed over his long career?  Or how sore is butt must be?

COOL DOCUMENTARY
If you’ve ever been down on the Emerald Coast in the winter time especially, you’ve probably seen the Blue Angels fly over the water which is exciting every time you see them. You actually hear them coming and have to learn to look further ahead from their sound to actually see them. Sometimes they skim low to the water and it’s breathtaking. It’s one of my favorite things I look forward to when I go to the Gulf Shores-Orange Beach area. The jets fly out of their home base in Pensacola where the Angels are loved in that community.

Now there’s a great documentary about the “Blues” that I watched on Prime. It will be in Imax Theaters and will probably be showing in the theater inside the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola. Another place you should check out if you’ve not been. And it’s free!

Here’s the TRAILER you can check out that lets you see what it's like to be chosen to be a Blue Angel pilot.

PRICEY GUITAR

A John Lennon 12-string guitar that we saw him hold and play in the movie “Help” just sold at auction for 3 million dollars. Lennon gave the guitar to a co-writer named Gordon Warner who then gave it to his manager. The manager put it up in his attic where it sat for 50 years. Everyone thought it was lost for good. I’ve got to start cleaning out my attic…just in case.

SAD JOKE

A husband says, “I just found out the wife is writing a book about our honeymoon called 50 Shades of OK.” Alrighty then.

TONIGHT

Kristy Cox’s new album party is on for Billy Blue Records this evening. And tonight I’ll get to hear her unveil those three songs I helped write in front of a “live” audience at the Station Inn with her great band.

Proud of all of these songs and can’t wait to hear them sung tonight.

Have a great weekend!

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

Tornado Month...Music In The Mail...Pearl

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 2, 2024   And a happy Tuesday morning to you. All eyes on the weather here in Nashville today. Storms, hail, and the weather folks are looking out for tornadoes.   A bunch of our schools decided to close because of that. 72 high today, but then that weather moves through and tomorrow’s high is only going to be 54. Fingers crossed that this storm doesn’t get crazy on us. It’s April…part of the deal anymore in middle Tennessee it seems.   YESTERDAY I had a free day to do that catching up thing. Got a few things struck off that list. We’re already doing that pre-packing thing for our trip a week from today to see our daughter and her husband over in Germany that we’re really starting to look forward to. Now if we only could find a Star Trek machine to beamed there in minutes instead of a LOT of hours flying…that would be great. But we’re certainly looking forward to seeing scenery with our kids like this.   MUSIC IN THE MAIL I did ge
