The Road Ahead...Lobster...Shoes

Wednesday May 15, 2024

Wednesday morning “hump day” all day. A little sunshine on tap today…we hope. High of 75 in Music City today.

Tuesday was a pretty lazy day. I had one appointment then the day opened up. It was another day that brought a little rain which is something we’ve gotten used to in Nashville these days. Loud thunder and heavy rain at times. That really bad storm that went through here less than a week ago was indeed something. They now say 9 tornadoes touched down in the Nashville area during that storm that killed one and did it’s share of property damage particularly just south of Nashville in the Columbia, Tennessee area.

My road work has slowed down a bit after a very heavy first quarter of running and doing shows. It starts to get busy again come the first of August.

Here’s a peek at the shows on my calendar coming up now through the month of August.

June 18 & 19 I’m in Heyworth, Illinois with Freedom Sings USA writing songs with veterans.

July 6 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum for a noon songwriters show with Steve Dean.

July 12 & 14 in Memphis with Freedom Sings USA.

August 2 in Huntsville, Alabama at the Von Braun Center for the Jim Parker Songwriter series. Dinner & show.

August 3 (tentative) in Franklin, Tennessee at the All About Z Music House Concert with “Hits & Grins”.

August 9 & 10 in Shiloh, Illinois with Freedom Sings USA.

August 17 in Tullahoma, TN with Linda Davis, and Lang Scott at the South Jackson Civic Center.

August 31 at Starstruck Farm in Lebanon, TN with “Hits & Grins”.

More details on all of these shows and others is available here on the website under “Tour”.

Pretty good story here. An Australian doctor who was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor is now cancer free after using a first of its kind treatment that he helped develop himself.

How long does it take to get back in shape after you’ve laid around and been sedentary? An expert say you can see benefits in 6-8 weeks if you start exercising regularly. And within 3-4 months you can be in really good shape again.

Research is saying 40% of us live in unhealthy air environments. Pollution.

Word to the wise from that restaurant now.

Sounds like Red Lobster will declare bankruptcy by the end of the month. What happened there?  I used to love going but it has been a really long while. Must be a lot of folks like me who have not been there in a while.

And on a silly Lobster note…this is the best lobster song ever from my old buddies Pinkard & Bowden. “I Lobster And Never Flounder”.

Caitlyn Clark who played her first game in the WNBA last night wore a pair of $1,500 Nike’s into the arena before the game. She didn’t play in those…she just entered the building in them. She can easily afford that as Nike is going to pay her $28 million to wear their shoes. Unheard of for a female basketball player. But the girl has game, and she’s packing arenas right now for women’s basketball so she’s worth every Nike dime and dollar.

I was thinking after reading that story how LONG it’s been since I’ve worn hard sole shoes. Boots on stage every now and then…but I’m pretty much in tennis shoes all the time. And don’t even ask me when the last time was that I applied shoe polish. I see a shoe & polish yard sale coming up.

Comedian Bill Burr came up with this one.

Let’s go to Brunch. What a great idea!  Why would you want to sleep in on a Sunday when you can go pay $18 for eggs? Now, you’re thinking.

A new report claims that most Baby Boomers have saved little for their retirement. Assuming baby boomers live an additional 20 years after retirement the report concludes two thirds of all Baby Boomers won’t be able to live the same lifestyle they were living while they were working. Over half of them have saved less than $250,000 and will be relying on Social Security to get them through.

Maybe that’s why 20% of Americans over the age of 50 are now saying they won’t retire. Save up!

I’ll share this song I wrote with Brent Burns that he recorded titled “Baby Boomers”. If you are one yourself take a listen and see if you don’t remember most of the references in this tune.

Wild Bull Attacks A Tourist On A Popular Beach In Mexico In Front Of A Crowd Of Bystanders”. Don’t they call that bull fighting?

I’m online writing with my friend Troy Engle in Pennsylvania this morning. Troy’s new album on Pinecastle Records will be released in a few weeks and I’m blessed to have 2 songs on that album that we wrote together including Troy’s current single “NeverTo Lost’ that’s doing well on the bluegrass-gospel charts right now. So we’ll catch up on that and then try to rhyme something new together.

Have a great Wednesday.

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

Tornado Month...Music In The Mail...Pearl

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 2, 2024   And a happy Tuesday morning to you. All eyes on the weather here in Nashville today. Storms, hail, and the weather folks are looking out for tornadoes.   A bunch of our schools decided to close because of that. 72 high today, but then that weather moves through and tomorrow’s high is only going to be 54. Fingers crossed that this storm doesn’t get crazy on us. It’s April…part of the deal anymore in middle Tennessee it seems.   YESTERDAY I had a free day to do that catching up thing. Got a few things struck off that list. We’re already doing that pre-packing thing for our trip a week from today to see our daughter and her husband over in Germany that we’re really starting to look forward to. Now if we only could find a Star Trek machine to beamed there in minutes instead of a LOT of hours flying…that would be great. But we’re certainly looking forward to seeing scenery with our kids like this.   MUSIC IN THE MAIL I did ge
