Memorial Day Weekend..."Chief Cluck"...National Burger Day

BILL BLOG

Tuesday May 28, 2024

Tuesday morning and it’s back to work for everybody today. Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day.

And we finally have a sunny day coming at us. No clouds, high of 82.

YESTERDAY

I wrote online on Memorial Day with my young friend in North Carolina Larry Frick. Larry and his wife have a little farm that’s been in his family for years which is why he’s not here in Nashville. He’s got cows to take care of. But he finds time to play plenty of shows in his area and as far east as Ole Red’s in Gatlinburg. I love his young traditional voice and yesterday we wrote an Alan Jackson kind of song that will fit his voice well. And we had fun putting it together…together.

Today he’s on a plane with his wife for a little he and her time away from their young kids for the first time in a bit. Stopping in Miami and renting a Jeep and then the two of them will head over that long stretch of beautiful water that will land them in Key West for a week. He knew I’d been there a couple of times and he asked for a restaurant suggestion. I gave him one he and his wife already had their eye on…a Cuban place called. El Siboney. SO good.

So good I ate there three times when I was in Key West for the big Parrot Head gathering there a couple of years ago called MOTM “Meeting of the Minds”. Look it up if you ever go.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

The daughter of the late Paul Salois, Peggy Pruett sent me this on air radio lineup I was part of as an 18 year old kid at KPCR Radio in Bowling Green, Missouri. Peggy is the daughter of the late Paul Salois who built and owned that radio station I worked at.

They were using this to promote the move of that little 1,000 watt radio station to a barn that Paul,  had built. Bill Whyte..."Chief Cluck". I think I'm still that guy today!

Yes, we went from a one bedroom trailer to a barn! As the Jefferson Theme says, “Movin’ On Up”!

Thank you for this picture Peggy. It brought back a ton of great memories.

SPEAKING OF RADIO

I have SO got to have one of these.

HEALTH NOTES

According to a study the longest living people share several traits. Staying hydrated, moving, eliminating stress, and laughing are a few of those things.

A dietitian just cleared the air on drinking lemon water. It does not help you lose weight. Some folks believe that…but apparently they’re incorrect. It may have some health benefits, but it’s not Ozempic.

Top 5 cities in Europe where travelers get sick the most include Tenerife, Spain (several cities in Spain were listed) Paris, Sunny Beach, Bulgaria, and number 1?  London believe it or not. Must be the fish and chips.

MARRIAGE WISDOM

This gem from the late Oscar Wilde.

The man who says his wife can’t take a joke, forgets that she took him.”

I’m sure every lady will say “Amen’ to that.

BURGER TIME

Today in National Hamburger Day. You can get some cheap if not free burgers at a lot of locations today. I like mine plain. Just burger, cheese, and bun. And I order it that way twice hoping it won’t come back with extras all over it. Folks taking my order get hung up and confused when I order “plain”. If I ever open a restaurant I’m naming it PLAIN. You can add anything you’d like, but the order is coming to your table plain.

Of course Jimmy Buffet liked his cheeseburger loaded.

I like mine with lettuce and tomato

Heinz 57 and French fried potatoes

Big kosher pickle and an ice cold beer

Well good God Almighty which way do I steer

GO FOR THE GOLD

This go around in the Summer Olympics someone is going to get a gold medal for street dancing. Uh huh. Pretty sure it won’t be me. I can’t seem to master the hokey pokey. I pokey okay, but my hokey is not so great.

SHARKS

There are more shark attacks in Florida than anywhere else in the world. Dayton Beach having the most attacks and the Dayton Beach region. Part of the reason I don’t wade out into the ocean anymore. I’m fond of my limbs.

Although over Memorial Day weekend they had to shut down one beach in California because a shark knocked a guy off his surfboard. A reminder I guess that you can “hang ten” but you might not get back to shore with ten.

HOME ALONE

That house in the movie that’s located in Chicago is up for sale. They want 5.25 million. Hopefully whomever buys it will have seen the movie and know not to grab the door knob without checking.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Florida Priest Bites Woman Who Grabbed Holy Communion Wafers.

Pretty sure that’s why I wrote this song “Religion Scares The Hell Out of Me”.

TODAY

I have an off day of writing and with the weather being perfect here I think I’ll try to take advantage of that and get outside with the cicadas and the chiggers and try to get some sun.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

Tornado Month...Music In The Mail...Pearl

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 2, 2024   And a happy Tuesday morning to you. All eyes on the weather here in Nashville today. Storms, hail, and the weather folks are looking out for tornadoes.   A bunch of our schools decided to close because of that. 72 high today, but then that weather moves through and tomorrow’s high is only going to be 54. Fingers crossed that this storm doesn’t get crazy on us. It’s April…part of the deal anymore in middle Tennessee it seems.   YESTERDAY I had a free day to do that catching up thing. Got a few things struck off that list. We’re already doing that pre-packing thing for our trip a week from today to see our daughter and her husband over in Germany that we’re really starting to look forward to. Now if we only could find a Star Trek machine to beamed there in minutes instead of a LOT of hours flying…that would be great. But we’re certainly looking forward to seeing scenery with our kids like this.   MUSIC IN THE MAIL I did ge
