Aussie Rhyming...Purple Skies...Miss Drumstick

Monday May 13, 2024

Monday morning be here…hope you spoiled your Mama’s yesterday. Little rain in our forecast today in Nashville with a high of just 72.

Friday morning I was in a writing room with my young Aussie friend Angus Gill who is now here in the states and planning on staying if he can wade through all the red tape to make that happen.

Angus and I have written several songs, some of which he’s recorded on his albums in Australia that have done well. He’s a multiple Golden Guitar Award winner in Australia and one of the albums and songs that did really well for him is this song “Scrapbook” that’s dedicated to his Grandmother who was ill at the time we wrote it. Angus knew he was not going to have her much longer and we wrote this song to honor her.

It turned out so great and it went #1 on the Australian charts and is now a living memory of his Grandma. I’m glad he invited me to write that idea with him. And I’m glad we wrote a fun “commercial” country song on Friday morning as well. Good way to start the weekend.

I did not see the northern lights from our house over the weekend. Many did in Nashville and the skies turned purple for a lot of folks which would have made the musical artist Prince very happy.

All in all a very quiet weekend here at the Whyte House and we even had a quiet celebration yesterday on Mother’s Day. Our daughter did call from Germany to wish her Mom and Happy Mother’s Day which was great. Here’s to my wife Kathy who’s been a heck of a Mom to our daughter. The two of them talk like sisters these days and they talk often. A good thing for sure.

A competitive body builder says he cut lo-carbs out of his diet and started eating potatoes 6 times a day and got in the best shape of his life.

A new study suggests that infusing more olive oil into your diet could pay big dividends for cognitive health and longevity.

So much smoke is wafting into the U.S. from some Canadian wildfires that it prompted and air alert in Minnesota.

The most popular baby names are in for last year.

For girls the most popular is Olivia followed by Emma, Charlotte, Amelia, and Sophia.

For boys the most popular is Liam followed by Noah, Oliver, James, and Elijah.

William landed at #10 on the boys list. I’ll take it!

Monday Night Football games find me in front of the Manning Cast on ESPN 2 and not the regular broadcast anymore. That’s because I find Peyton and Eli and their guests more entertaining as they watch the game and comment. And it’s going to get more entertaining this year as former Patriot’s coach Bill Belichick is going to be a guest early in each show this year. If you’ve seen him doing some offseason broadcasts you see that he’s not only one of the smartest people in the game, but he also has a quiet sense of humor that I’m sure Peyton and Eli are going to bring out even more during their Monday night shows. I’m going to need to stock up on lots of popcorn for Monday nights this fall.

So I’m out driving on Nashville streets this weekend and saw plenty of these out there STILL.

Is there not a statute of limitations on potholes?!

Maybe there’s hope after all for the box office this year after some dire predictions rolled out last week saying this could be one of the worst summers ever for folks going to the movie theater. The “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” did 56.5 million in its opening weekend.

As many of those Ape movies as there have been, I’ve not felt the urge to sit down and watch one. Especially when I can watch something so much more intelligent like Three Stooges re-runs.

Waymo Robotaxi’s in Phoenix, San Francisco, and LA have picked up over 50,000 riders who paid for a ride with no driver. Do you tip the car when you get out?

Memorial Day Mattress Day Sales commercials and ads have already started. Some kind of law that every Memorial Day we have to buy a mattress.

There are some really odd beauty queen pageant titles around the country. I grew up with the Pike County Pork Queen contest near where I grew up. I’m not sure who wants to be a “Pork” Queen…but some do.

Or who would want to be Miss Drumsticks? That happens in Yellville, Arkansas every Thanksgiving. Some girl gets to wear that sash and crown. Better than being Miss Giblets I suppose.

And I’m not sure listing that you were Miss Armpit Queen on your resume is a plus either. They name one in Nevada yearly. Pretty sure I don’t want to judge that contest.

I’m writing this evening with my friends Darin & Brooke Aldridge on the computer. They’ve been busy and on a roll here lately as their newest CD “Talk of the Town” is creating some talk after it debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts. I’m happy about that as I’ve got two songs on the CD.

So I’m sure we’ll touch base about that before we start trying to rhyme something new together.

Have a great Monday!

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

Tornado Month...Music In The Mail...Pearl

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 2, 2024   And a happy Tuesday morning to you. All eyes on the weather here in Nashville today. Storms, hail, and the weather folks are looking out for tornadoes.   A bunch of our schools decided to close because of that. 72 high today, but then that weather moves through and tomorrow’s high is only going to be 54. Fingers crossed that this storm doesn’t get crazy on us. It’s April…part of the deal anymore in middle Tennessee it seems.   YESTERDAY I had a free day to do that catching up thing. Got a few things struck off that list. We’re already doing that pre-packing thing for our trip a week from today to see our daughter and her husband over in Germany that we’re really starting to look forward to. Now if we only could find a Star Trek machine to beamed there in minutes instead of a LOT of hours flying…that would be great. But we’re certainly looking forward to seeing scenery with our kids like this.   MUSIC IN THE MAIL I did ge
