An Award...A Drone...A Florida Trip This Week

BILL BLOG

Monday October 16, 2023

Monday morning rolled in and it’s just 49 degrees at the moment with a high of just 57 today.  I’m dusting off the space heater.

THE WEEKEND

Mine started Friday morning writing with Troy Engle up in Pennsylvania online which is always fun. Not only a great songwriter but Troy plays every instrument with strings on it. So when you write a song with him and he records it?  I comes back often times sounding like a record already. And we got a fun bluegrass song to add to our little pile of co-writes.

Troy is putting the finishing touches on his own new bluegrass album that will have a least a couple of our tunes on it. The first single off of it is “Back Home” that we wrote. Take a listen and you’ll hear how good an artist Troy is as he's playing every instrument you hear and it's him singing both the lead part and harmony parts.

Good day on the computer Friday.

AN AWARD

Congrats to my buddy Steve Dean who just received the award you see below from Global Songwriters, an organization the helps new songwriters find their way with seminars, classes, and writing with Pro sessions…like Steve who’s done that several times.

Sheree Spoltore is the head of this great organization and a friend for a lot of years and it’s admirable what she and her group do for aspiring songwriters.

DRONING ON

My wife and I bought a small drone a Christmas or so ago for our son in law Casey Peterson. Casey is a pilot in the Army stationed over in Germany with our daughter Heather. So as a pilot, it did not take him long to master aerial photography with this drone.

Yesterday he flew it over a castle in Germany. Turned out to be a great gift because we get to see some amazing footage. Check out this drone footage above a castle in Germany.

HEALTH NOTES

Research says that ice cream and chips are just as addictive as cocaine or heroin. Uh oh. I guess that makes me a junkie.

A biological scientist says wearing socks to bed can help one get more and better sleep. They help to promote a lower body temperature and relaxation.

A study says that 2 of every 3 of us only see a doctor when something is seriously wrong.

RING OF FIRE

Well, it got dark outside our house around noon on Saturday which meant the “Ring of Fire” eclipse thing was going on. Did you look up?  Me neither. I think I was watching college football and didn’t want to bother looking for a lawn chair or funny glasses.

But I did read a great story about the “Ring of Fire”…not the eclipse…but the Johnny Cash hit. Apparently the songwriters Merle Kilgore and June Carter Cash were approached about letting Preparation H use part of for a hemorrhoid commercial. Kilgore had made jokes about that on stage and Prep H folks had a light go on I guess. Either way the Cash family said “no”. Good decision as it would have made the song the “butt” of many jokes.

HEEL-BAG

Check out this stiletto-heel handbag ladies. You can buy one for just $375. Just like it sounds. A handbag that looks like a stiletto heel. And some celebrities have already bought them.

NASHVILLE

It’s no secret that Nashville has become an “it” city. More and more folks are moving in. The state that most people are moving from to move here?  That would be Florida believe it or not.

You don’t need anyone to tell you that if you already live here. You know it by the traffic jams that in some parts of town seem to last all day. Here’s how noticeable it is. Our International Airport has expanded but is STILL really busy. So busy that the other day folks got out and walked to the terminal off of I-40 because of the line trying to get to the terminal being so long. So now folks flying are going to get texts from the airport letting them know how bad the traffic is there in an effort to help folks not miss their flights. Leave EARLY if you have a flight.

SPEAKING OF TRAVELING

The Arab Emirates have plans to build an underwater train that would run some 1,200 miles under water from Dubai all the way to Mumbai, India. The train could run from 600-1000 km speed wise. Sort of like an Aquarium train with all the fish and coral flying by. Wonder what a ticket will cost to dive and ride on that bad boy?

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Florida Woman Beat Up Mom, Stole Her Car And Hit Her With It. (aww…nothing like family)

TODAY

I’ll be sitting in a chair with a dentist doing their thing in my mouth…always fun. Then some prepping and pre-packing for the trip to Port St. Joe Florida early this Thursday morning for the Blast on the Bay Songwriters Festival.

The full schedule is out so in case you’re coming….here’s the full SCHEDULE. I’ve got 4 shows this year, 3 with my “Hits & Grins” trio and one on Sunday with 4 other songwriters.  I couldn’t encourage you to come more if you need a little musical getaway with views of the water.

Have a great Monday!

Funny Co-Write...Wildflower Too...House Concert Saturday

BILL BLOG Friday August 25, 2023   The weekend approaches. It’s Friday! A cool 100 degree high expected here in Nashville today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Irene Kelley yesterday at my publishing company. Irene played at the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival last weekend as did I and while we were there she shared a funny idea for a song she had. So yesterday we tackled that and had great fun with it. Irene is a terrific well know bluegrass artist, was an MCA mainstream artist at one time and has had had several stars record her songs like Alan Jackson did with this great country song “ I’m A Little Bluer Than That .”   But like a lot of artists, she didn’t have a funny song in her catalog. So we solved that problem yesterday for her and laughed while doing it.  Her current bluegrass single is on the charts and doing well right now “ Yellow Brick Highway ”. Good day yesterday.   SPEAKING OF BLUEGRASS On the way back home after my songwriting session I had

Baseball Night...Hot Golf Joke...Pumpkin Already

BILL BLOG Wednesday August 16, 2023   Here comes another Hump Day Wednesday. Cooler today with a high of just 81.   YESTERDAY I came down with a little something apparently during the Little Rock trip last weekend, so yesterday it turned out to be a good thing that my writing appointment had to be rescheduled as I spent the day just resting. And it’s paid off as I’m good to go again today.   In fact I felt well enough to go the ballpark last night and chill out watching our Triple A Brewers affiliated team the “Sounds” play a little baseball.     And what a gorgeous evening to watch baseball as the temps actually dropped into the 70’s last night. Perfect. And getting outdoors made me feel better as well so I’m grateful for that.      UPCOMING SHOWS Here’s the next few shows on my calendar.   This weekend August 18 & 19 it’s the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival.     Saturday August 26 I’m with “Hits & Grins” for the Terry and Wanda Seay House Concert
