Bucyrus, Ohio...Brats...Great Show

BILL BLOG

Friday May 12, 2023

Hello Friday morning. Getting ready to roll back home to Nashville from Ohio.

YESTERDAY

I had a full day in the town of Bucyrus, Ohio with Linda Davis, and Lang Scott as we had an “Evening in the Round” show last night at the elementary school auditorium.

 Our great hosts Tom and
Linda gave us a tour of the town and treated us to lunch at a local place that features bratwurst. Turns out that Bucyrus is big on brats as is the town of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Both have big bratwurst festivals and some years Bucyrus gets the votes for “best” and some years it’s Sheboygan.  After living in Wisconsin for 6 years I know all about the culture of bratwurst. I’m a fan. You dip them a combo of beer and onions then grill those bad boys and you get heaven on a bun. And I have to say, the brat I had in the town of Bucyrus certainly rivals those in Milwaukee and all of Wisconsin.

THE SHOW

Well, we could not have had a better show. The concert association here spent a lot of money upgrading their facility. Beautiful…complete with a balcony and stained glassed window.

And our sound guys were TOP NOTCH professionals which made our job of entertaining the big crowd very easy. And the crowd was truly awesome and none of us wanted the night to end…it was that much fun. And certainly it was fun shouting out “O H”! and then hearing the crowd roar back “I O”!!!!

And after the show wrapped our hosts took us out for late night pizza at a great local place that put the perfect cap on our stay and show in Bucyrus, Ohio. Can’t wait to come back someday!

QUESTION

At a local place in Bucyrus for lunch yesterday they gave me this cup to drink my coffee from. Wonder if the library fines you if you don’t get the cup back within two weeks?  Dunno.

ACM AWARDS

I had completely forgotten that the ACM Awards were on last night hosted by Garth and Dolly. Say nary a lick of it because I was on stage while the show was on.

Chris Stapleton won Entertainer of the Year, which was fairly predictable, but after that we saw some of the new school country artists win big time as Lainey Wilson won for Best Female and Morgan Wallen won for Best Male Vocalist.

I did pull up what might have been the highlight of the evening when Dolly brought a goat out on stage for Garth.

HEALTH NOTES

A pancreatic cancer vaccine has proven to be effective in half of the patients that were treated in a small trial. Promising.

The European Journal of Preventive Cardiology says if we eat 5 pieces of fruit daily it’s as beneficial as taking 4,000 steps.

And Peloton has recalled 2.2 million of their exercise bikes because of a seat hazard.

MOTHERS DAY

That be this Sunday. You didn’t forget right?  SmartGuideWeekly listed a bunch of what they think are great Mother’s Day gifts. Hmm. They suggested buying Mom a toothbrush sterilizer or a Lux Glo device that naturally treats Acne and wrinkles. “Mom, ya got acne…so I got ya this”. Not sure how that will go over actually. Flowers might not be such a bad choice after all.

Oh…and I would not even think about giving Mom this Mother’s Day card. Don’t do it!

AIRPORT APP

Interesting. Lyft is getting ready to roll out a new app feature that could be helpful for those who need a ride from the airport they land in. Their new feature will allow one to call for a car the minute they land. You can then let them know if you have baggage you have to pick up. And then they can track you, so that your car will be ready when you walk out of the terminal.

I got to an airport the other morning around 4 AM dog tired from all the weather delays and had to call an Uber. And I had to wait because I was waiting to time it just right. The Nashville airport was so busy from all the delayed flights arriving at once, that I had to wait another good long while because of so many calls from passengers who had picked up their bags and then placed their call for a car.  With this new Lyft feature, it could make things so much easier. Cool idea.

ANOTHER PHONE FEATURE

I did not know this, but apparently there is a way you can snap a picture of any plant, and then do a “swipe” kind of thing and your phone will let you know what kind of plant you’re looking at. Sort of like the Shazam app thing that helps you identify the song you hear on your radio or in a restaurant or anywhere. Hard for me to tell the difference between a weed and a plant so it might be helpful.

SAVINGS

The Governor of Tennessee just gave us a break. From August 1 of this year to October 31 we will not have to pay sales tax on anything we buy. Might be time to buy yet another guitar during that three-month period!  No wonder more and more folks are retiring to the Volunteer State.

TODAY

It’s back to Nashville, about a seven and half hour drive that takes us through Cincinnati. Uh oh…I could see another stop at this place on the way home.

Then Monday morning early I’m back on the road with “Hits & Grins” for a show Monday night in Canton, Illinois. More on that Monday morning.

Have a great weekend!

Dollywood Shows...A Rocket Gone...In-A-Gadda

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 25, 2023   Another Hump Day to get over. 52 with light rain in Music City today. Rain fits the melancholy I feel as I got word that my daughter and son in law touched down in Germany where they will be stationed with the Army for the next three years. The positive news is that my wife and I will be making trips to Europe to seem them and the beautiful scenery that now surrounds them. I’m going to Google and see if Tom Bodet has a light on for us there.   YESTERDAY I wrote with David Morris at a recording studio my publishing company owns. David signed a deal several months ago with my publishing company as well so we’re sort in the same family. David lives out east but comes to town regularly and stays a week or so to co-write with other folks as he did with me yesterday. He brought with him a true story of a friend who passed away recently and said something that made quite the impact with David. It’s all about not fooling yourself

Record Warmth...A Travel V-Log...No I Do

BILL BLOG Friday February 24, 2023   Friday morning and we’re headed for the last weekend of February already.   YESTERDAY My songwriting appointment cancelled yesterday after my co-writer called and let me know he wasn’t feeling 100% so that gave me the day open and I got out just a bit to enjoy the warm weather. It hit 80 degrees yesterday and that broke a 127-year-old record. The highest temperature on February 23 before yesterday was 74 and that was way back in 1897.    Folks had their AC on here in Music City yesterday. Amazing. It’s starting to feel like baseball weather around here.   Little cooler today with a high on tap of just 51.   And it’s not that long until we do spring forward in time. That’s coming up on March 12…just a couple of weeks away.   MARCH SHOWS With February coming to an end, here’s a look at a couple of shows I have on the books in March.   March 10 and 11 at Dollywood for a festival to celebrate the 50 th Anniver

Blackouts...Christmas...Looking For Audrey

BILL BLOG Monday December 26, 2022 Monday morning and I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! They’re actually calling for a little light snow in Nashville this morning with a high above freezing. Almost 40 degrees for a high today and back up close to 70 by the weekend.   CHRISTMAS WEEKEND Well, we went through the really cold weather too. Down near zero part of the weekend, and e we had a little snow mixed with power outages, cars off the roads   and rolling blackouts… a first in the history of Tennessee. We did not get a notice from our electric company so it was a surprise when the power went out in 15-minute increments four different times early Friday morning. About the time I’d find the flashlight and light a candle or two the power would pop back on and I’d walk around resetting every clock we have. Nashville is not prepared for sub-zero and the power grid here was not capable of the high demand from folks who were cranking up their heaters. I’m not political but,
