It's March...A Star Performance...Adulthood

BILL BLOG

Wednesday March 1, 2023

Wednesday the first day of March. The first “Hump Day” in March. And we have 77 for a high today!

March…where we spring forward, watch March Madness, have a corned beef and Guinness on St. Pats Day AND the Mandalorian series with Baby Yoda begins again. That’s tonight.

YESTERDAY

What was a very full day turned into a very open day yesterday as not one but two writing appointments had to be cancelled. Andrea Pearson came down sick so yesterday morning came open. And then Grand Ole Opry stars Darin and Brooke Aldridge actually came to town to record new stuff including a video that includes appearances by Ricky Skaggs & Mo Pitney so my 5 pm that was to be online went bye bye as well. It happens when you write a lot of songs. I have to cancel every now and then myself.

I’ll be at my publishing company later this morning and Darin and Brooke will be there working so I’ll look forward to touching base with them and catching up on their busy career.

LAST NIGHT

So with the day wide open, and the weather feeling like Spring I got outside and got a bit of sun, and then last night I got out and grabbed a little neon light as I went out and saw my friend Lauren Mascitti and a full band rock the world-famous Station Inn. Every time I sit out front and watch and listen to Lauren I always feel like I’m seeing a star come alive. Such a great vocalist and songwriter. It was nice to see a lot of friends there as well supporting her. She did this new song last night that she had written titled “Living The Dream” that’s so good. Click on and enjoy her talent.

OHIO

It’s looking like our “Evening in the Round” show with Linda Davis, Lang Scott and myself will be headed to Waynesville, Ohio just north of Cincinnati for a show in September at a very cool place. As soon as the details are completely worked out I’ll pass along the venue name and show time and how to get tickets. I always look forward to going anywhere near Cincinnati so that I can grab some Skyline Chili AND…the Reds are playing the Cardinals that weekend! Already looking forward to this.

HEALTH NOTES

Savannah Guthrie wasn’t feeling well when she showed up for the Today Show on NBC yesterday. She tested…she had COVID and she left the “Live” show and went home.

The FBI is now saying they believe the virus came from a Chinese lab.

And now there’s an APP that can scan your face and give you a health update. It’s the Anura App. Great. That’s all I need. An app telling me I look miserable.

DID YOU KNOW?

That the Dutch have a “slow lane” in some of their grocery stores. It’s for customers who like to chat with the employees. You’re at a different place in your life when you have time to take any kind of slow lane. And with that in mind…

HOW TO TELL IF YOU’RE AN ADULT

I saw this online. And the list is surely for the same set of folks who take the slow lane. Here’s their list.

You gain 30 pounds overnight.

You’d rather sleep than go out.

Everything hurts.

Comfort before style (guilty)

You have a favorite spatula!  What?

And finally this one. Every college student looks like they’re 12 years old.

Anyone nodding their head?

HAPPY PLACE

WalletHub is the publication that yearly lists the happiest places to live in the country. For the third year in a row they chose Fremont, CA. The rest of the top 10 list includes San Jose, CA, Madison, WI, Overland Park KS, San Francisco, Irvine, CA, Columbia, MD, Sioux Falls SD, and South Burlington VT. Nashville checked in at 122. Here’s the COMPLETE list if you’re interested along with the reasons they use to pick “Happy”.

Along with all those “happy” places they say Arizona is the most moved to state in the union. I can see that as it’s one of my favorite states as well. And the fact that they grow so many Agave plants that make tequila, might also factor into the decision.

TODAY

I’m writing with the husband wife team Adam and Amy Pope. Been awhile. They’re working towards a new project, and as we have  a couple of songs we’ve written that they’ve recorded already, including this one “Tonight I’m Playing Patsy”, we’re going to try and see if we can’t add  one more song to their pile of songs that they might record.

And then tonight I’m having dinner with Jim Stanton who was the General Manager who gave me my big break in country radio in Cincinnati all those years ago. And it’s been a forever long ago that I’ve seen him. He’s in Nashville and was nice enough to reach out to me so I’m looking very forward to seeing him and his companion and find out what he’s been up to all these years, and to thank him once again.

Have a great Wednesday!

Dollywood Shows...A Rocket Gone...In-A-Gadda

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 25, 2023   Another Hump Day to get over. 52 with light rain in Music City today. Rain fits the melancholy I feel as I got word that my daughter and son in law touched down in Germany where they will be stationed with the Army for the next three years. The positive news is that my wife and I will be making trips to Europe to seem them and the beautiful scenery that now surrounds them. I’m going to Google and see if Tom Bodet has a light on for us there.   YESTERDAY I wrote with David Morris at a recording studio my publishing company owns. David signed a deal several months ago with my publishing company as well so we’re sort in the same family. David lives out east but comes to town regularly and stays a week or so to co-write with other folks as he did with me yesterday. He brought with him a true story of a friend who passed away recently and said something that made quite the impact with David. It’s all about not fooling yourself

Record Warmth...A Travel V-Log...No I Do

BILL BLOG Friday February 24, 2023   Friday morning and we’re headed for the last weekend of February already.   YESTERDAY My songwriting appointment cancelled yesterday after my co-writer called and let me know he wasn’t feeling 100% so that gave me the day open and I got out just a bit to enjoy the warm weather. It hit 80 degrees yesterday and that broke a 127-year-old record. The highest temperature on February 23 before yesterday was 74 and that was way back in 1897.    Folks had their AC on here in Music City yesterday. Amazing. It’s starting to feel like baseball weather around here.   Little cooler today with a high on tap of just 51.   And it’s not that long until we do spring forward in time. That’s coming up on March 12…just a couple of weeks away.   MARCH SHOWS With February coming to an end, here’s a look at a couple of shows I have on the books in March.   March 10 and 11 at Dollywood for a festival to celebrate the 50 th Anniver

Blackouts...Christmas...Looking For Audrey

BILL BLOG Monday December 26, 2022 Monday morning and I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! They’re actually calling for a little light snow in Nashville this morning with a high above freezing. Almost 40 degrees for a high today and back up close to 70 by the weekend.   CHRISTMAS WEEKEND Well, we went through the really cold weather too. Down near zero part of the weekend, and e we had a little snow mixed with power outages, cars off the roads   and rolling blackouts… a first in the history of Tennessee. We did not get a notice from our electric company so it was a surprise when the power went out in 15-minute increments four different times early Friday morning. About the time I’d find the flashlight and light a candle or two the power would pop back on and I’d walk around resetting every clock we have. Nashville is not prepared for sub-zero and the power grid here was not capable of the high demand from folks who were cranking up their heaters. I’m not political but,
