Australian Song..."Details"...The Weekend

BILL BLOG

Friday January 27, 2023

Friday morning in Nashville and the last weekend of January is already on us. 53 degree high to start the weekend here.

YESTERDAY

I had an off day to catch up on stuff and took some time to pitch some songs to artists and producers, some folks in particular that I know are getting ready to go in studio and start recording songs.

I also got a call from an Australian cow-writer Katrina Burgoyne whom I’ve mentioned before. She was a contestant on the Bachelor TV in Australia several years ago…did not get picked. BUT…recently was married to a wonderful guy who films videos and is a producer as well. She was calling to tell me they are getting ready to record a very fun song we wrote called “Wife Trial” which was an idea she brought to me because at that time she was wondering if her now hubby was EVER going to propose. So we wrote this to the point funny song about that. She took it home and played it for him…he laughed but she had no idea he had just bought an engagement ring and popped the question right away. To really get how ironic and funny that is, check out this video of Katrina performing it alongside several other young girl writers at a show in Nashville awhile back. So glad that she’s going to record this tune.

TOURING GERMANY

We got our first Facetime “live” messages with my daughter and her husband as they were taking a tour of the city in Germany they now live in. We went along with them for a little tour. Though it was cold enough for my daughter to be wearing two earmuffs, it looked absolutely gorgeous. European towns are almost always gorgeous with their cobblestone streets and old school buildings. They were having a great time checking out their new city, and we’re excited to go see them there as soon as we can. My wife was excited to see a Steiff Bear shop while I’m thinking, where is the German Beer Garden!?

TRACK OF THE DAY

Nick Dumas, a great young musician, singer, songwriter who lives in Wisconsin is releasing his bluegrass album that I have the title track on “Details” that I co-wrote with Tim Stafford and Becky Buller. I MAY have featured this one before, but because it’s release day, and available now for purchase, it just made sense to share this song “Details”. Thank you Nick for recording it.

VIRUS HEALTH NOTES

A new CDC reports admits that those getting the latest booster shots are not fully protected from getting sick. They’re saying they are only 48% effective.

There are reports that the U.K. is going to end COVID boosters period for those under the age of 50.

A lot of folks must be stressed. The use of sleeping pills has doubled in the U.S.

MARRIAGE JOKE

My friend recently got divorced from his wife. They decided to split the house. He got the outside.

GOING ELECTRIC

The Mayor in NYC REALLY wants to go electric. He’s shooting to make all Uber and Lyft rides electric by 2030. And that’s not that far away.

LOTTO KARMA

A guy in Florida goes to by a lottery ticket and a rude person cuts in front of him. So he decides to buy his scratch off ticket at the counter instead of the machine he was trying to buy it from. His scratch off ticket paid off to the tune of a million dollars. Karma. Good ole karma.

TODAY

I’m rhyming with young Addie Levy (who shows off her mandolin skills in the video just linked) today from Knoxville, the young musician artist who works a lot at Dollywood. And this time my buddy Steve Dean will join the two of us and we’ll see if we can’t create something that fits what Addie does. Looking forward to it.

THE WEEKEND

“Who Dey”! The Bengals and Chiefs on Sundays alongside 49’ers vs Eagles. Hoping the Bengals will make it back to the Superbowl again! I’ll also be doing some prepacking for a road trip that will take me to McAllen, Texas Thursday night with Hits & Grins.

And then to Boca Grande, Florida on Friday night with Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our "Evening in the Round" show.  More on that next week.

Have a great weekend!

Dollywood Shows...A Rocket Gone...In-A-Gadda

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 25, 2023   Another Hump Day to get over. 52 with light rain in Music City today. Rain fits the melancholy I feel as I got word that my daughter and son in law touched down in Germany where they will be stationed with the Army for the next three years. The positive news is that my wife and I will be making trips to Europe to seem them and the beautiful scenery that now surrounds them. I’m going to Google and see if Tom Bodet has a light on for us there.   YESTERDAY I wrote with David Morris at a recording studio my publishing company owns. David signed a deal several months ago with my publishing company as well so we’re sort in the same family. David lives out east but comes to town regularly and stays a week or so to co-write with other folks as he did with me yesterday. He brought with him a true story of a friend who passed away recently and said something that made quite the impact with David. It’s all about not fooling yourself

Record Warmth...A Travel V-Log...No I Do

BILL BLOG Friday February 24, 2023   Friday morning and we’re headed for the last weekend of February already.   YESTERDAY My songwriting appointment cancelled yesterday after my co-writer called and let me know he wasn’t feeling 100% so that gave me the day open and I got out just a bit to enjoy the warm weather. It hit 80 degrees yesterday and that broke a 127-year-old record. The highest temperature on February 23 before yesterday was 74 and that was way back in 1897.    Folks had their AC on here in Music City yesterday. Amazing. It’s starting to feel like baseball weather around here.   Little cooler today with a high on tap of just 51.   And it’s not that long until we do spring forward in time. That’s coming up on March 12…just a couple of weeks away.   MARCH SHOWS With February coming to an end, here’s a look at a couple of shows I have on the books in March.   March 10 and 11 at Dollywood for a festival to celebrate the 50 th Anniver

Blackouts...Christmas...Looking For Audrey

BILL BLOG Monday December 26, 2022 Monday morning and I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! They’re actually calling for a little light snow in Nashville this morning with a high above freezing. Almost 40 degrees for a high today and back up close to 70 by the weekend.   CHRISTMAS WEEKEND Well, we went through the really cold weather too. Down near zero part of the weekend, and e we had a little snow mixed with power outages, cars off the roads   and rolling blackouts… a first in the history of Tennessee. We did not get a notice from our electric company so it was a surprise when the power went out in 15-minute increments four different times early Friday morning. About the time I’d find the flashlight and light a candle or two the power would pop back on and I’d walk around resetting every clock we have. Nashville is not prepared for sub-zero and the power grid here was not capable of the high demand from folks who were cranking up their heaters. I’m not political but,
