A Bar At Denny's...Key West Emceeing...New Show

Thursday November 3, 2022

Sun is ready to come up over the water just outside my hotel room here in beautiful Key West. 85 for high here today.

Well, I realized I’m in Key West when I stopped at a Denny’s on the island and saw they had their own bar!  Should have named it the “Grand Slam Bar”.  A missed opportunity.

Wednesday I sat down with Rob Hill who booked me and Renee Adams, the morning personality on Margaritaville Radio on XM and we split up the job chores of introducing the acts that will be playing on the main stage that sits directly outside my balcony window here at the Casa Marina Resort.

If you’re around Renee for even a second, you’ll know why they gave her a radio shift. Great personality who can talk all day and be entertaining.

So my main job yesterday was saying “hi” to the large gathering of Parrot Heads and then introducing an Eagles Tribute band that included several Trop Rock friends of mine including Donny Brewer, Mike Nash and Paul Roush, David Baker, and others. A ten-piece group doing Eagles songs and they just killed it.

We introduced them, and I planned on leaving but they were so good I grabbed a chair and a cold drink on the back of the stage and listened to every song And the Parrot Head crowd grew bigger and bigger as their set unfolded.

I am starting to add some more shows in 2023. And there are a couple to mention for our “Evening in the Round” trio with Linda Davis, Lang Scott, and myself.

First, we will have a 2-show deal in Boca Raton, Florida on February 3 at the CrowninShield Community Center there. Two one hours shows. 1 at 5:30 pm and a second one hour show at 7:30 pm.

Then we just added a date in May 1st in  Bucyrus, Ohio which is a small town about 6 miles south of Toledo and about that many miles north of Columbus. This will be at the Elementary School there. A 7 pm show there.

All the details for both of these shows and others are up on my calendar here on the website.

China is locking down an area that surrounds the world’s biggiest iPhone factory because of the COVID outbreak there. Wonder if they’ll be getting those phones vaccinated so that they don’t get a virus?

And check out this little Corona Christmas ornament for those that want the virus hanging on their Christmas tree!

Yes…they are already promoting Christmas. Black Friday sales events are already happening. For those looking for something “different” to help decorate the tree this year…how about this timely gas ornament?

Or this hip-technology Christmas dangler?

And I may have to purchase this one for the hard to buy folks on my Christmas list like my wife.

How about this gigantic tree ornament that fell and rolled down a street in London wiping out whatever was in the way? This should be a weird call to the insurance company. Check this out.

Nope. No winner. AGAIN. The Powerball is now going to be worth a record 1.5 BILLION dollars at the next drawing. I saw a LONG line of folks lined up to buy Powerball tickets here in Key West yesterday at a little store. Imagine how long that line is going to get now. I’ll be looking for a SHORT line when I’m out later today.

I did get back to my Key West room last night in time to watch an amazing feat as the Houston Astro pitchers combined to throw a no hitter in a World Series!  Christian Javier, Rafael Montero, Bryan Abreu, and Ryan Pressly combined together to make this happen in Philadelphia against the Phillies. First time since the Yankees Don Larsen did it in 1956. Pretty amazing to watch. And they did it against a very potent hitting club, the Phillies. Just when I think I’ve seen it all in baseball.

Now some are saying that if you drink caffeine while you’re pregnant it could impact your child’s height. Danny DeVito may want to sue Folgers then.

I’m back on stage introducing several acts again here at the Meeting of the Minds. One of the bands I’ll introduce this afternoon will be Gary Roland and the Landsharks Band. You can tell by the name what kind of music will be played. The sun will be beating down, so I’m looking for sunscreen and sunglasses right now.

And then early tomorrow morning I’ll be on a boat doing a comedy-song show with Brent Burns and Stony Gable that sets sail off of Key West harbor. I’ve already taken my first dose of Dramamine. Wish me luck. Ain’t a danged thing funny about throwing up on a boat.

Have a great Thursday!

A Mo Mo Proclamation...A Pilot Gets His Wings...Happy 4th!

BILL BLOG July 4, 2022     Happy 4 th of July!   Let the fireworks begin. And in my neck of the woods, that means they’ll be firing them up for the next 10 days or more. It will be 95 here in Nashville today…very 4 th of “Julyish”.   THE MO MO WEEKEND I don’t know where to start about how great my show was in Louisiana, Missouri Friday night for the 50 th Anniversary celebration of “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster. The Elks Lodge where I played must have had well over 200 folks attending, and I think I knew at least 90% of the crowd filled with family members, friends, high school classmates from Elsberry, Missouri and even a couple of old members of my band when I was young who I did not recognize. It’s been that long. Tim Burke played drums in my band, and I had not seen him since then. He drove in from Nebraska to see the show. And Crystal Motley who sang in my young band also showed up, and I’d not seen her since those days and didn’t know her either. Geez. I need to go home

Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival...Hall of Famer...Two Shows Tonight

BILL BLOG Friday August 19, 2022   Friday morning in Gatlinburg getting ready for a songwriting session and a couple of shows tonight here at the Gatlinburg SongwritersFestival. 81 for the high today with some rain here today in the mountains.   YESTERDAY I picked up my “Hits & Grins” buddy Steve Dean and we hit I-40 East all the way to Gatlinburg. Rolled into town and stopped at the historic old Gatlinburg Inn and picked up our credentials, checked into our rooms a little further down the street and got set for the first activities.   First activities included a meet and greet followed by opening ceremonies underneath one of the ski lifts here. The put songwriter Kim Williams who wrote a TON of Garth Brooks hits into the Hall of Fame here. His wife accepted on his behalf as Kim passed away a few years ago.    I never wrote with Kim, but I’ve written with his talented daughter Amanda several times and I’ve had the pleasure of hearing all the Garth and Kim Williams storie

The Missouri Mo Mo Show

BILL BLOG Friday July 2, 2022 I'm on the road home to Nashville after one of the more incredible concert evenings I've ever had back home in Missouri for the 50th Anniversary Show for "Mo Mo" the Missouri Monster. The place was just packed with old friends, and co-workers, and musicians, family and friends.  Unfortunately I have no time to do a full "blog" this morning, but check back here Monday for the complete story on an evening I will not soon forget. Have a great Friday!
