New Cledus Cut...Australia Good News...Fall Weekend

Friday September 23, 2022

Friday…bring on the weekend. A comfortable 77 here on the first day of Fall in Music City.

I finished up an idea with my friend Katrina Burgoyne at the publishing company yesterday that we started a month ago. Something very fun and up-tempo fitting of her contagious Australian personality. She has a ton of creative energy and is always fun to write songs with. And she’s as busy as anyone I know these days doing gigs and producing videos with her equally creative husband. Fun writing day.

My friend Mark Hauser brought me a funny idea that involves country artist Brad Paisley. We wrote it funny, and yesterday he sent me a note letting me know that Cledus T. Judd is recording the song today. Awesome. I think this might be the 6th song that Cledus has recorded that I’ve been a writer on, so I’m grateful for that. Thank you, Mr. Judd.

And I got word this morning that the new CD from TC Cassidy in Australia, “Traveling Hearts” has exploded on the country charts there with its release. I’m blessed to have two songs on the project, the current single “Love Hate, Love Again” and this one “Before I Turn Out The Lights” both written with Angus Gill who produced the album. Really good news. Congrats to TC, Angus and all the folks who were on this great project.

Dr. Fauci admits in an interview that parts of the pandemic response was botched. He believes they should have adopted commercial testing sooner, and that masks should have been recommended sooner as well.

One infectious disease expert recommends we get our flu and booster shots in the next 3 weeks. It takes a month for it to fully kick in, and by that time we’re nearing holiday season and family gatherings.

Hong Kong has finally removed their international quarantines after having those in place over two years.

Fiona was downgraded to a category 3 now as it’s somewhere in the Bermuda area. But those weather forecasters are still saying we could see a heck of big storm hit the panhandle in the next few days or week. Both my eyes are on that because my next road dates are in that area.

October 7 in Gulf Shores with Brent Burns at the Sunset Cork Room.

October 9 in Mobile with comedian Juanita Smith at the Peoples Room.

October 20-23 in Port St. Joe Florida with “Hits & Grins” for the Blast on the Bay Songwriters Festival.

October 28 in Sarasota, Florida for Flip Flop Stock.

November 1-5 in Key West for MOTM with all those Parrotheads.

November 10-12 Gulf Shores for the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival.

So, you can see why I have my eyes on that storm.

This sign was posted in a parking lot. It reads, “If You Are Not Disabled And Park Here You Soon Will Be”. That should at least give pause to any idiot trying to take that space wrongfully. Or at least make them pause and think about it.

Yesterday during my co-write with Katrina Burgoyne she talked of her love of Shania Twain music, and we tried to capture some of the “groove” of what Shania did so well in the little melody we wrote around the lyrics. Today Shania released her first new single record since 2017. Welcome back. Here’s the new song, “Waking Up Dreaming”.

They could be on the way. Or at least cheaper as the interest rates keep climbing. One housing expert is predicting home prices will fall by as much as 23% next year. Of course it’s still hard to judge when to buy and when to sell. As the old real estate joke so accurately puts it, “I finally figured out how to make a million dollars in the real estate business. You start out with two million”.

“North Dakota Woman Who Brought Raccoon To Bar Slapped With Charges”. Probably because the danged racoon tried to sneak out without paying its tab.

I am writing with my bluegrass friend Irene Kelley this morning. Her new album is about done and I’m proud that she chose one of our songs to be on it, “Satan Get Behind Me.” Hoping we can write something that good again today.

And then it’s the first weekend of Fall!

Have a great weekend.

A Mo Mo Proclamation...A Pilot Gets His Wings...Happy 4th!

BILL BLOG July 4, 2022     Happy 4 th of July!   Let the fireworks begin. And in my neck of the woods, that means they’ll be firing them up for the next 10 days or more. It will be 95 here in Nashville today…very 4 th of “Julyish”.   THE MO MO WEEKEND I don’t know where to start about how great my show was in Louisiana, Missouri Friday night for the 50 th Anniversary celebration of “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster. The Elks Lodge where I played must have had well over 200 folks attending, and I think I knew at least 90% of the crowd filled with family members, friends, high school classmates from Elsberry, Missouri and even a couple of old members of my band when I was young who I did not recognize. It’s been that long. Tim Burke played drums in my band, and I had not seen him since then. He drove in from Nebraska to see the show. And Crystal Motley who sang in my young band also showed up, and I’d not seen her since those days and didn’t know her either. Geez. I need to go home

Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival...Hall of Famer...Two Shows Tonight

BILL BLOG Friday August 19, 2022   Friday morning in Gatlinburg getting ready for a songwriting session and a couple of shows tonight here at the Gatlinburg SongwritersFestival. 81 for the high today with some rain here today in the mountains.   YESTERDAY I picked up my “Hits & Grins” buddy Steve Dean and we hit I-40 East all the way to Gatlinburg. Rolled into town and stopped at the historic old Gatlinburg Inn and picked up our credentials, checked into our rooms a little further down the street and got set for the first activities.   First activities included a meet and greet followed by opening ceremonies underneath one of the ski lifts here. The put songwriter Kim Williams who wrote a TON of Garth Brooks hits into the Hall of Fame here. His wife accepted on his behalf as Kim passed away a few years ago.    I never wrote with Kim, but I’ve written with his talented daughter Amanda several times and I’ve had the pleasure of hearing all the Garth and Kim Williams storie

The Missouri Mo Mo Show

BILL BLOG Friday July 2, 2022 I'm on the road home to Nashville after one of the more incredible concert evenings I've ever had back home in Missouri for the 50th Anniversary Show for "Mo Mo" the Missouri Monster. The place was just packed with old friends, and co-workers, and musicians, family and friends.  Unfortunately I have no time to do a full "blog" this morning, but check back here Monday for the complete story on an evening I will not soon forget. Have a great Friday!
